History

Thane Municipal Corporation started its own transport service on 9 February 1989, known as TMT. TMT is the major bus service provider in Thane. TMT has all its bus depots in Thane and numerous bus stops. The biggest depot is at Wagle Estate.TMT plies its buses inside Thane city and also towards Kalwa & Mumbra. TMT bus ply from Thane to Bhiwandi, Mira Road, Mulund, Borivali, Andheri, Nallasopara, BKC and Dombivali. The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Transport (MBMT) is a public transport service owned by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), which began operations in 2006 as a local bus services connecting interconnecting various places in the Mira-Bhayandar area. Presently, these buses are run by a private company Kestrel Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. Kestrel will pay a royalty of Re 1 per kilometer to the MBMT. Presently MBMT operates in Mira-Bhayander, Thane, Borivali, Uttan and Andheri. Its fleet consists of non-AC TATA Marcopolo CNG buses, non -AC Eka Electric buses and a handful of Volvo AC buses.

Red Line 9 (extension) of the Mumbai Metro is part of the metro system for the city of Mumbai, India. Metro Line 9 is an extension of the Red Line from Andheri to CSMIA and Dahisar to Mira Road. This line will be unique from the other metro lines because it will run on a double-decker bridge. There will be a flyover on the first deck and the metro will run on the second deck. The flyover will start near the proposed Shivaji Chowk metro station and will end in Bhayander (West) via Mira Bhayander Road. It shall provide interconnectivity among the Western Express Highway, the Western Line, and the Mumbai Metro.

Virar high-speed railway station, shortened to Vasai-Virar station, is an under-construction high-speed railway station on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. This station is located near Sahakar Nagar, Virar East, Virar, Maharashtra, India. It is the third station of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor, after Thane station and before Boisar station.
