West Virginia's 2nd Senate district is one of 17 districts in the West Virginia Senate. It is currently represented by Republicans Charles H. Clements and Chris Rose. [1] All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms.
District 2 is based in the Mid-Ohio Valley region, covering all of Calhoun, Doddridge, Ritchie, Tyler, and Wetzel Counties and parts of Gilmer, Marion, Marshall, and Monongalia Counties. It includes the communities of Moundsville, McMechen, New Martinsville, Paden City, Mannington, Pennsboro, Sistersville, and Grantsville. [2]
The district is located largely within West Virginia's 1st congressional district, with a small portion extending into West Virginia's 2nd congressional district, and overlaps with the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 33rd, 34th, 50th, and 51st districts of the West Virginia House of Delegates. [3] It borders the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania.

West Virginia's 2nd congressional district consists of the northern half of the state. It contains Barbour, Berkeley, Brooke, Doddridge, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jefferson, Lewis, Marion, Marshall, Mineral, Monongalia, Morgan, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Randolph, Ritchie, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Upshur, Wetzel, and Wood counties.
Daniel Haymond Polsley was a nineteenth-century lawyer, judge, editor and politician who helped form the State of West Virginia and served one term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Alexander Xavier Mooney is an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for West Virginia's 2nd congressional district from 2015 to 2025. A member of the Republican Party, he represented the 3rd district in the Maryland State Senate from 1999 to 2011 and is a former chair of the Maryland Republican Party. He is the first Hispanic person elected to Congress from West Virginia.
