The whitish dwarf squirrel (Prosciurillus leucomus) is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is endemic to Indonesia, where it is found on Sulawesi, Buton Island, Muna Island, Kabeana Island, and adjacent islands to the southeast of Sulawesi.
The red-bellied squirrel or Sulawesi giant squirrel is a species of squirrel. Until recently, it was described as a species in the genus Callosciurus, but since the 1990s it is generally placed in its own genus Rubrisciurus. It is endemic on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, where it is widespread. It has also been found on Sangir Island to the north of Sulawesi. With a length of 25 cm, it is rather large for a squirrel. It lives in the tree tops of the rainforests of the island.
The bear cuscuses are the members of the genus Ailurops. They are marsupials of the family Phalangeridae.
The Mentawai squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is one of 20 or so species endemic to the Mentawai Islands off the west coast of Sumatra. There are three subspecies: C. m. melanogaster, C. m. mentawi, and C. m. atratus. This small isolated population is listed as "Vulnerable" by the IUCN due to habitat loss.
The black-striped squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is found throughout Java, Sumatra, southern Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, and numerous small islands. This taxon consists of four subspecies: C. n. nigrovittatus, C. n. bilimitatus, C. n. bocki, and C. n. klossi. It is listed as "least concern" by the IUCN.
Prevost's squirrel or Asian tri-coloured squirrel is a colourful species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is found in forests in the Thai-Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo and nearby smaller islands, with an introduced population in northern Sulawesi. Although the Prevost's squirrel is declining in some regions because of habitat loss and hunting, the species is not considered threatened since it generally remains common and widespread. It can live in somewhat disturbed habitats and often visits plantations or gardens. It mostly feeds on plant material, especially fruits, but also takes insects.
The montane long-nosed squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is endemic to central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland. It was discovered during a 1930 expedition led by Gerd Heinrich.
The lowland long-nosed squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is endemic to Sulawesi, Indonesia where its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland.
The secretive dwarf squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is endemic to Sulawesi, Indonesia, where it is found on the Mengkoka Mountains in southeastern Sulawesi. Its natural habitat is montane forest. It is threatened by habitat loss.
Prosciurillus is a genus of rodent in the family Sciuridae, endemic to Sulawesi and nearby small islands, Indonesia. It contains the following species:
The Celebes dwarf squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is endemic to northeast and central Sulawesi, Indonesia, and is also found on nearby islands including Sangir Island.
Weber's dwarf squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is endemic to northern and western Sulawesi, Indonesia. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests.
Low's squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is found in Borneo and nearby islets. Its former subspecies S. l. robinsoni from Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula and S. l. natunensis from the Natuna islands have recently been given species status.
The Samar squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It was historically known as lalagsing. It is endemic to the Philippines, where it has been recorded from Samar and Leyte Islands. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests. It is threatened by habitat loss, due to expanding human activities, hunting, and the lack of basic knowledge about the species. They thrive in primary and secondary lowland and montane forest, including the lower edges of mossy forest. It is also found in some agricultural areas.
Swinhoe's striped squirrel is a small species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. This species is found mostly in China and Southeast Asia. Their diet consists of mostly seeds, fruits, nuts and ginger nectar. Like most squirrels they live in forest areas with mountains, usually in groups. They have litters that average in size of 3.25 offspring.
The black-footed shrew is a species of mammal in the family Soricidae. It is endemic to northern and central Sulawesi, Indonesia where it lives on the floor of the tropical forests. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has assessed its conservation status as being of "least concern".
The Callosciurinae are an Asiatic subfamily of squirrels containing over 60 species named after the genus Callosciurus, which means "beautiful squirrels".
The Sanghir squirrel is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is endemic to the volcanic Sangir Islands in Indonesia, located just north of the equator in the Celebes Sea, between the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.
The Halmahera naked-backed fruit bat is a common and widespread species of megabat in the family Pteropodidae. It is endemic to Indonesia. The bat's non-Moluccan populations are apparently an undescribed separate sub-species.
The Sulawesi montane rain forests is a tropical moist forest ecoregion in Indonesia. It includes the highlands of Sulawesi.
