The old band, we didn’t even know each other before it all came together [...] It was dysfunctional but it worked, but this time, we wanted it to be a little more stable. It was apparent that if we were going to do the Murderdolls again, we were going to do it with everything we’ve got. [2]

On June 17, 2010, on the Murderdolls' Facebook page, the lead single, "My Dark Place Alone", was available for full preview on Bloody-Disgusting.com. [5] On June 22, the single was made available for free download, for 48 hours only, from the Roadrunner website. [6] Mock film trailers were released for four of the album's non-single tracks: "Drug Me to Hell", "Summertime Suicide", "Death Valley Superstars" (never released because it was deemed "too violent"), and "Chapel of Blood". Special edition

Along with the standard edition of the album, a special edition of Women and Children Last was also released on August 31, 2010. It features an additional three bonus tracks as well as a DVD of the band's first live performance in seven years. [8]

Limited edition (last-aid kit)

This edition available only via website preorder. It features a 'last aid kit' which houses the CD/DVD combo version of the album (with autographed booklet), a t-shirt, patch, sticker, pill case and a digital download of the album. Additional bonus items are to be included but have not been announced yet. The fate of this item was uncertain as it was removed from the Roadrunner Records stock list as well as the pre-order list on Omega Order on July 5. As of July 16, the item is officially available again. [9]

James Zahn of Kik Axe gave the album 4 "axes" out of 5, praising the album's production, songwriting and recording, calling it "a step up from when we last heard from the band". He also stated that Women and Children Last is a big leap forward and described the band as "If Mötley Crüe were bitten by zombies and resurrected with instruments in-hand, they'd probably sound a lot like Murderdolls." [17]

Mark Garnett of SoundSphere magazine also went along the same line, stating that Wednesday 13's voice is the best right now as it has been in years. He also called Jordison's drumming and guitar riffs 'phenomenal', praising his guitar works on "Summertime Suicide" and "Nowhere", calling them "heavy power-laden beasts yet catchy". [15] Michael Melchor of 411mania.com gave the album 7.0 out of 10, concluding the album as "good" on the 411Mania Legend, and summarized his review by stating "Some of the rollicking fun and celebratory nature of giving the finger to political correctness may be missing here, but in its place is a certified direction. Great care was taken in the writing and recording of Women and Children Last to deliberately mark a point of maturation. There are times when the record takes itself a little more seriously than perhaps it should given the genre, but overall the murkier, more pessimistic feel works more often than not." [18]

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray. After several lineup changes in its early years, the band settled on nine members for more than a decade: Crahan, Jordison, Gray, Craig Jones, Mick Thomson, Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, Chris Fehn, and Jim Root. Bassist Gray died on May 24, 2010, and was replaced during 2011–2014 by Donnie Steele. Jordison was dismissed from the band on December 12, 2013. Steele left during the recording sessions for .5: The Gray Chapter. The band found replacements in Alessandro Venturella on bass and Jay Weinberg on drums. After the departure of Jordison, as of December 2013 the only founding member in the current lineup is percussionist Crahan. Fehn was also dismissed from the band in March 2019 prior to the writing of We Are Not Your Kind and was replaced by Michael Pfaff. The band parted ways with Jones and Weinberg in 2023.

Iowa is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Slipknot. Produced by the band and Ross Robinson, it was released on August 28, 2001, by Roadrunner Records. The title derives from the band's home state, Iowa, which members have stated is one of their greatest sources of inspiration. With much anticipation for the album following the success of their 1999 self-titled debut, pressures on the band were high. Their relationships with each other suffered and this was later described as the darkest time of their career. It was also the first full album to feature guitarist Jim Root after only appearing on one song from their previous album. Despite troubles within the band and with Iowa's development, Slipknot promoted it for almost a year.

It was released on June 29, 1999, by Roadrunner Records, following a demo containing a few of the songs which had previously been released in 1998. Later, it was reissued in December 1999 with a slightly-altered track listing and mastering as the result of a lawsuit. It was the first release by the band to be produced by Ross Robinson, who sought to refine Slipknot's sound rather than alter the group's musical direction. This is the only album to feature original guitarist Josh Brainard who left at the end of recording in late 1998 while the band was taking a brief break. Jim Root, who recorded two tracks at this point, would appear full time on subsequent albums starting with their next album Iowa.

Vol. 3: is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Slipknot, released on May 25, 2004, by Roadrunner Records. A special edition, containing a bonus disc, was released on April 12, 2005. It is the band's only album produced by Rick Rubin. Following the band's tour to promote its second album in 2002, speculation regarding the future began. Some band members had already been involved in side projects including Murderdolls, To My Surprise, and the reformation of Stone Sour. In 2003, Slipknot moved into The Mansion to work on the album. Initially, the band was unproductive; lead vocalist Corey Taylor was drinking heavily. Nevertheless, the band managed to write more than enough material for a new album. Vol. 3 is credited as Slipknot's first to incorporate more traditional, melodic song structures, guitar solos and acoustic instruments.

(sic)nesses is the fourth video album by American heavy metal band Slipknot. It was released on September 28, 2010 by Roadrunner Records. The double-disc release features a recording of their headlining performance at the 2009 Download Festival, along with a 45-minute behind the scenes documentary created by percussionist Shawn Crahan, and the four music videos from All Hope Is Gone. It is the band's first release since the death of the band's former bassist Paul Gray and is dedicated in his memory. On September 22, 2010, (sic)nesses premiered in select theaters across the United States. Entrance to the screenings were free and it included free giveaways. Roman Surman is an American musician and the current lead guitarist for Wednesday 13's horror punk solo band. Surman was also a guitarist for Gunfire 76, Bourbon Crow and the second incarnation of Murderdolls, all bands fronted by Wednesday 13.
