Miles Davis Volume 2 is the fifth studio album by musician Miles Davis. It refers to two separate but related entities. The first is a Miles Davis studio album released by Blue Note Records as a 10-inch LP, as BLP 5022 in 1953. The six tracks from this LP plus five alternate takes were released on CD in 1990 and remastered with restored artwork in 2001.
A Modern Jazz Symposium of Music and Poetry is an album by the jazz bassist, composer, and band leader Charles Mingus, released by Bethlehem Records in mid-1959. In spite of the title, the album does not contain any poetry. "Scenes in the City", however, includes narration performed by Mel Stewart and written by actor Lonne Elder with assistance from Langston Hughes. The composition "Duke's Choice" re-appears, in updated form, as "I X Love" on the 1963 album Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus. "Nouroog", "Duke's Choice" and "Slippers" form the basis of the suite "Open Letter to Duke" on Mingus Ah Um.

Electronic Sonata for Souls Loved by Nature is a composed work, originally in fourteen movements—or events as they are denoted by the composer—written by jazz arranger George Russell. The composition is "... meant to suggest that man, in the face of encroaching technology, must confront technology and attempt to humanize it, using it to enrich his collective soul…not only his purse… to explore inner, as well as outer space". It was originally written in 1968, using new compositional techniques associated at the time with contemporary music.

The original album features Hill with trumpeter Lee Morgan, tenor saxophonist Booker Ervin, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Freddie Waits performing five of his originals. The 2000 CD reissue added alternate versions of three of the pieces recorded by a sextet with trumpeter Woody Shaw, tenor saxophonist Frank Mitchell, guitarist Jimmy Ponder, bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Idris Muhammad at an earlier session as bonus tracks.
