The Yellow Line, also known as the Kaohsiung Metropolitan line, is a planned medium capacity rapid transit line on the Kaohsiung Metro. The line has been approved by the Executive Yuan in March 2022, and construction started in 2023. [2]

History

The initial plan of the yellow line was first seen in 2002 when the whole MRT construction plan for Kaohsiung was being re-sketched. [3]

By the spring of 2015, director Wu Yi-Long (吳義隆) of the Kaohsiung City Government's Mass Rapid Transit Bureau  [ zh ] addressed to the local parliament that the yellow line was undergoing feasibility assessment whose route was likely a combination of the old-drafted yellow line and Brown Line, which was hoped to be the second circular public transportation line across Kaohsiung City preceded by the first circular line in Kaohsiung and the whole nation. On 14 February 2017, four members of the Legislative Yuan representing Kaohsiung and affiliated with the Democratic Progressive Party, namely Liu Shyh-fang, Lee Kun-tse  [ zh ], Lai Jui-lung  [ zh ], and Hsu Chih-chieh had held a joint press conference unveiling the new draft of the route for the yellow line and asked the Executive Yuan to approve the plan, whose bid was later agreed and approved by the yuan to be included in on March 23. On March 27, a few days after the approval of the Executive Yuan's approval, the local MRT bureau submitted the feasibility study of the yellow line to the authorities concerned of the central government. In the study, the line was planned to be an underground system whose route combines the previously planned Brown Line, Fongshan Line, and Wujia section of the Green Line.

In March 2022, the Executive Yuan approved the construction of the line. [7]

Stations

The yellow line has two start points from Cruise Terminal and MRT Cianjhen Senior High School Station respectively and an end point at Niaosong Depot, Niaosong District, Kaohsiung City. The section from Y1 to Y15 is also called Jiangong-Minzu (建工民族) Line while the section between Y1 and Y23 is called Chenching-Wujia (澄清五甲) Line.

Hitachi Rail Italy supplied 17 sets of 4-car driverless medium-capacity trains for the line. Extensions to the north and south are currently under construction.

The Sanying or Light Blue line is a light metro line under construction in New Taipei, Taiwan. Approval for the construction of the line was given by the central government on 2 June 2015. Constructed on elevated tracks, the line will be 14.3 km long and will have 12 stations and one depot. It will run from Dingpu Station on the Bannan line along Zhongyang Road to Sanxia and then cross National Freeway No. 3 to Yingge. A turnkey contract was signed with Hitachi Rail STS and Hitachi Rail Italy as members of the ARH consortium on 21 June 2016. As leader of the consortium, Hitachi Rail STS's scope of work included the supply of train control technology and all the electromechanical systems for an equivalent value of €219.8 million. Hitachi's scope of work included the design and manufacture of 29 two-car trains. The main project started construction on 21 July 2016 and is expected to be completed and opened to traffic by 2025. In addition to the main line, there is also a plan to extend the line to Bade District, Taoyuan. This 3.9 km extension would connect to the Green Line of the Taoyuan Metro.

New Taipei Metro is a transit system serving New Taipei, Taiwan, operated by New Taipei Metro Corporation. The Green line is a Medium capacity rapid transit line in Taichung as part of Taichung Metro. The line was briefly opened to the public on 16 November 2020, but closed on 22 November due to faulty couplers on the trains. The line officially re-entered service on 25 April 2021, becoming Taiwan's fifth rapid transit system in operation. Two extensions, one heading east to Dakeng and the other reaching south into Changhua, are also planned.

The Blue line is a proposed rapid transit line in Taichung and will be operated by Taichung Metro.

The Wugu–Taishan light rail is a planned light rail transit (LRT) system in the Sanchong, Luzhou, Wugu and Taishan Districts, New Taipei City, Taiwan. The route begins from Jixian Environmental Park, passing through Luzhou, Wugu, and Taishan, terminating at the location between Taishan metro station (A5) and Taishan Guihe metro station (A6) on the Taoyuan Airport MRT. A new station is also planned to be set up on Taoyuan Airport MRT to allow transfers between the light rail system. Wugu–Taishan light rail is known in the New Taipei Metro system as the Fuchsia line, or line F.
