The Taoyuan Metro (formerly Taoyuan Rail Transit and officially Taoyuan Mass Rapid Transit System) is a rapid transit system serving Taoyuan City, as well as parts of New Taipei City and Taipei City, in Taiwan. [3] The most recently proposed network includes 11 lines and extensions, of which 2 are now under construction. The Taoyuan Airport MRT (Taipei Main Station - Huanbei) is the only line currently in operation. The system opened with the opening of the first line in the system, Taoyuan Airport MRT, for trial passenger service on 2 February 2017 and revenue passenger service on 2 March 2017.

Airport trains come in two types, commuter and express train. [4] Express trains stop at Taipei Main Station, New Taipei Industrial Park, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Airport Terminal 1, Airport Terminal 2. Commuter trains stop at every station.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the system.
All lines will use standard gauge track, with the exception of the Red line which will use 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm) narrow-gauge railway as it is basically a reconstruction of the Taoyuan portion of the TRA Western Line into an underground railway tunnel intended to support more frequent, rapid transit-like local rail services (rather like the reconstruction of TRA railways in Greater Taipei and Kaohsiung). The Taolin Line segment of the Brown Line from Taoyuan to Shanbi is intended to be built as a bus rapid transit route.

In March 2011, the Bureau of High Speed Rail, which oversees construction of the project, announced that the 11.4 km (7.1 mi)-long elevated structure from Dayuan Station (A15) to Xingnan Station (A20) had been completed. [5] The rest of the Taoyuan Line passed an environmental impact assessment in July 2014. Construction was expected to last from June 2015 to 2019. [6] Construction of the Green Line started in October 2018 and is expected to finish in 2026. [7] Construction of the Brown Line is expected to start in 2023, and expected to be completed by 2026. Kaohsiung Metro (Chinese: 高雄大眾捷運系統, 高雄捷運) is a rapid transit and light rail system covering the metropolitan area of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Its rapid transit network is known as Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit System or Kaohsiung Rapid Transit (KRT). Construction of the MRT started in October 2001. The MRT opened in 2008 and the Circular light rail in 2015. Kaohsiung Metro is operated by the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation (KRTC; Chinese: 高雄捷運公司) under a BOT contract the company signed with the Kaohsiung City Government.
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport MRT, commonly known as the Airport MRT, is a rapid transit line of the Taoyuan Metro that connects the municipalities of the capital Taipei, Taoyuan and New Taipei with Taoyuan International Airport. The 51.33 km (31.89 mi) line, from Taipei Main Station to Laojie River, has 22 stations and began commercial service on 2 March 2017.
The Circular or Yellow line is a metro line in New Taipei City, part of the New Taipei Metro, which was previously a line of the Taipei Metro. Currently the line runs between Dapinglin and New Taipei Industrial Park, it is approximately 15.4 km (9.6 mi) long with 14 stations. This initial section was opened on 31 January 2020. Hitachi Rail Italy supplied 17 sets of 4-car driverless medium-capacity trains for the line. Extensions to the north and south are currently under construction.
The Taichung MRT is a medium-capacity rapid transit system in Taichung, Taiwan. In addition to Taichung, it may serve Changhua and Nantou counties in the future. Taichung Metro's first route, the Green Line, officially began operation on April 25, 2021, making it the 5th rapid transit system operating in Taiwan.
The Songshan–Xindian or Green line is a metro line in Taipei operated by Taipei Metro, named after the districts it connects: Songshan and Xindian. Parts of the line runs under the Roosevelt Road, following the route of the former Xindian (Hsintien) railway line, which ceased service in 1965 on its southern section.
The Wenhu or Brown line is a metro line in Taipei operated by Taipei Metro, named after the districts it connects: Wenshan and Neihu. It is an automated medium-capacity rubber-tyred metro line and is 25.1 kilometres (15.6 mi) long, serving a total of 24 stations located in 7 districts in Taipei, of which 22 are elevated and 2 underground. As of April 2022, the line transports an average of approximately 140,000 passengers daily.

Sanchong is a station of the Zhonghe–Xinlu line on Taipei Metro and the Taoyuan Airport MRT located in Sanchong District, New Taipei, Taiwan. The station opened for service on 5 January 2012. It is a transfer station with the Taoyuan Airport MRT, which opened on 2 March 2017.

The Zhonghe–Xinlu or Orange line is a metro line in Taipei operated by the Taipei Metro, named after the districts it connects: Zhonghe, Xinzhuang and Luzhou. The line starts at Nanshijiao in Zhonghe, passes through central Taipei, then splits into two branches: one to Huilong via Xinzhuang and one to Luzhou.
New Taipei Industrial Park is a metro station in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei, Taiwan, served by both the Taoyuan Metro and the Taipei Metro.
The Yellow Line, also known as the Kaohsiung Metropolitan line, is a planned medium capacity rapid transit line on the Kaohsiung Metro. The line has been approved by the Executive Yuan in March 2022, and construction started in 2023.
The Sanying or Light Blue line is a light metro line under construction in New Taipei, Taiwan. Approval for the construction of the line was given by the central government on 2 June 2015. Constructed on elevated tracks, the line will be 14.3 km long and will have 12 stations and one depot. It will run from Dingpu Station on the Bannan line along Zhongyang Road to Sanxia and then cross National Freeway No. 3 to Yingge. A turnkey contract was signed with Hitachi Rail STS and Hitachi Rail Italy as members of the ARH consortium on 21 June 2016. As leader of the consortium, Hitachi Rail STS's scope of work included the supply of train control technology and all the electromechanical systems for an equivalent value of €219.8 million. Hitachi's scope of work included the design and manufacture of 29 two-car trains. The main project started construction on 21 July 2016 and is expected to be completed and opened to traffic by 2025. In addition to the main line, there is also a plan to extend the line to Bade District, Taoyuan. This 3.9 km extension would connect to the Green Line of the Taoyuan Metro.
New Taipei Metro is a transit system serving New Taipei, Taiwan, operated by New Taipei Metro Corporation. The Danhai light rail, Ankeng light rail, and Circular line are currently in operation, while the Sanying line is under construction. There are many other lines in various planning stages, such as the Shenkeng light rail. Concurrently, these services are connected to Taipei Metro but operate independently.
The Green line is a Medium capacity rapid transit line in Taichung as part of Taichung Metro. The line was briefly opened to the public on 16 November 2020, but closed on 22 November due to faulty couplers on the trains. The line officially re-entered service on 25 April 2021, becoming Taiwan's fifth rapid transit system in operation. Two extensions, one heading east to Dakeng and the other reaching south into Changhua, are also planned.
The Taoyuan Metro 1000 series, also referred to as Commuter Trains, are the electric multiple unit train types that are used for the all-stop Commuter services on the Taoyuan Airport MRT.
The Taoyuan Metro 2000 series, also referred to as Express Trains, are the electric multiple unit train types that are used for the limited-stop Express services on the Taoyuan Airport MRT.
Nankan New Town is a large residential development located at the border of Luzhu District and Guishan District in Taoyuan, Taiwan. It was first proposed as a new town in the 1980s. The project aims to create a town using 32.4 km2 in central Luzhu and northeast Guishan to relocate people from the overcrowded Taipei metropolitan area in response to the emergence of various industries in the area west of Taipei city. The new town has convenient access to the National Freeway 1, which was completed in 1978, and Taoyuan International Airport, which opened in 1979. It currently has a population of about 100,000. Famous buildings in the new town includes EVA Air Headquarters and Gallery & Palace, which is the tallest building in the district.
Laojie River is a station on the Taoyuan Airport MRT located in Zhongli District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. The station opened for commercial service in July 2023.
