    History

    Line 1 officially started construction on December 29, 2011. [4] The first 11.2 km section, from Nanhu to Nanning East railway station, began operation June 28, 2016. [5] The line opened fully on December 28, 2016. It is 32.1 km long, with 25 stations. [4] [6] Line 2 started construction in 2012 and was completed on December 28, 2017. [7] [8] Line 3 opened in June 2019. Line 4 opened in November 2020. Line 5 opened on December 16, 2021. [3]

    With the opening of Line 5, Nanning became the seventh city in China, and the first in Southern China to open and operate a fully automated subway line. [9]

    Future expansion

    The final 3.9 km of Phase 1 of Line 4, an extension from Lengtangcun to Longgang adding 3 stations, started construction in August 2022. [10]

    Line 6 Phase 1 started construction on December 26, 2023. Line 6 Phase 1 is an east-west crosstown line that is 27.9km long with 21 stations. [11]

    It is planned that there will be four vertical and four horizontal lines totaling 252 km of subway. The system is projected to carry over 5 million passengers per day. [4] [12]

    Shenzhen Metro Line 5, runs West–East from Chiwan to Huangbeiling forming an arc around central Shenzhen. It opened on 22 June 2011. Line 5's color is purple. Line 5 is an important east west and orbital line that connects various sub-centers of Shenzhen. This led to Line 5 being heavily used. In 2014, average daily ridership exceeded 500,000 people, with over 1 million passengers using the line on 20 July 2018, setting a new record. Since 2019, Line 5 has surpassed Line 1 as the busiest line in the Shenzhen Metro network. By 2021, the line regularly carries well over 1 million passengers every day and reaching the predicted long term daily passenger volume.

The line uses 6-car Type AH rolling stock, which is designed for exclusive use in Hangzhou.

    Pingshanwei station is an interchange station for Line 14 and Line 16 of the Shenzhen Metro. It is located in Pingshan District. Line 14 platforms is opened on 28 October 2022 and Line 16 platforms opened on 28 December 2022.
