The Hong Kong International Airport APM is a driverless people mover located within Hong Kong International Airport. It operates in two segments within Terminal 1 and the Midfield Concourse, and between Terminals 1, and also connects to the Skypier. It used to also serve Terminal 2 prior to 2019. However, as of May 2024, Terminal 2 is not in service due to redevelopment works and services between Skypier and Terminal 1 pass through Terminal 2 without stopping.
The first segment runs between the East Hall and the West Hall in Terminal 1. The segment aims to provide a faster and easier way for passengers travelling between immigration and boarding gates at the far end of the Terminal. Westbound service is for departure passengers only, while eastbound service is for arrival passengers only. Passengers cannot take the APM back to the East Hall, where most shops are located. For eastbound service, after reaching the East Hall, all arrival passengers must disembark for immigration, customs, and baggage claim. They are not allowed to take the APM back to the West Hall. Since both the East Hall and the West Hall are located within Terminal 1, passengers can choose to use travellators instead or walk, though this will be more time-consuming.
The second segment of the system runs from the SkyPier to Terminal 2 and then continues to the East Hall of Terminal 1. Different from the first segment, the second segment is the only means by which these three places are connected. SkyPier passengers heading for departing flights must take the westbound service of this segment to the East Hall of Terminal 1. SkyPier passengers are not allowed to alight at Terminal 2. Departure passengers from Terminal 2 can join the westbound service of the second segment from Terminal 2. All passengers must leave the train when it arrives at the East Hall of Terminal 1. Depending on the boarding gate location of their onward flight, passengers can change to the first segment of APM system at the opposite platform of the East Hall, to continue their way to the West Hall, or simply approach the boarding gate directly from the East Hall. The eastbound service is only for arrival passengers heading to SkyPier for ferry service to PRD ports. Ferry tickets will be checked before passengers may board the APM. Once arriving at the SkyPier, passengers cannot travel back to Terminal 1. Since there is no eastbound platform in Terminal 2, there is no intermediate station for the eastbound service.
The section from the East Hall to SkyPier is for SkyPier passengers and staff only. The first segment began operations in 1998, while the second segment began operations in early 2007. The SkyPier extension was opened to the public in late 2009.
In Late 2015, the Midfield Concourse extension was opened when the Midfield Concourse started operation.
The People Mover will be extended to the Terminal 2 Concourse in the 3rd Runway Development. It is estimated to open in 2024. [1] CRRC Puzhen Alstom Transportation System (PATS) won the contract to operate the extension running on Innovia APM 300 stock. [2]
The system will be reconfigured into 3 distinct lines: T1 line, T2 line and SkyPier line. T1 line will be extended 1 station eastwards to terminate at T2 APM interchange station. The SkyPier line will be shortened to serve between T2 station and SkyPier station, with a possibility of extending westward to the HZMB Hong Kong port. T2 line will be a brand new line with 3 stations serving T2 passenger terminal and the T2 concourse. The APM capacity will also be increased to six cars per train. [3]
The APM system is maintained by MTR Corporation.
Hong Kong has a highly developed transport network, encompassing both public and private transport. Based on Hong Kong Government's Travel Characteristics Survey, over 90% of daily journeys are on public transport, the highest rate in the world. The Changi Airport Skytrain is an automated people mover (APM) that connects Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at Singapore Changi Airport. Opened in 1990, it was the first driverless and automated system of its kind in South East Asia. The Changi Airport Skytrain operates from 05:00 to 02:30 daily. Traveling on the Skytrain is free and an inter-terminal journey takes approximately four minutes.
The Plane Train is an automated people mover system located at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport connecting all of its terminals and concourses. Built by Westinghouse Electric Corporation, the system is the world's most heavily traveled airport people mover. The system is currently operated and maintained by Alstom, which acquired the system's previous operator, Bombardier Transportation, in 2021.
The Harry Reid International Airport People Movers are three separate automatic people mover systems operating at Harry Reid International Airport near Las Vegas, Nevada. The people mover system consists of three separate lines: the Green Line connecting the Main Terminal to the C Gate Concourse, the Blue Line connecting the Main Terminal to the D Gate Concourse, and the Red Line connecting the D Gates Concourse to Terminal 3. Each line currently uses CITYFLO650 radio-based moving block signaling technology, which was introduced to the tram system when the Green and Blue Lines when the vehicles were replaced, the Red Line has always used moving block signaling technology as it opened in 2012 and it is the newest of the three lines.

Skypier Terminal is a cross-border facility that includes a ferry pier and a coach bay integrated within Hong Kong International Airport, Chek Lap Kok, New Territories, Hong Kong. It is operated by Hong Kong International Airport Ferry Terminal Services Limited, a joint-venture company between Chu Kong Passenger Transport Co., Ltd and Shun Tak-China Travel Ship Management Limited. At this building, passengers aboard can transit from Hong Kong International Airport to piers in the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province or vice versa, without immigration and customs clearance through Hong Kong. Passengers can also transit to Macao through coaches or vice versa, without immigration and customs clearance through Hong Kong.
The PHX Sky Train is an electric people mover at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, Arizona. The initial segment opened to the public on April 8, 2013. The first extension to Terminal 3 opened on December 8, 2014, and the second extension to the Rental Car Center opened on December 20, 2022. The 24/7 service operates free of charge, with trains running every 3–5 minutes.
The MIA Mover is an automated people mover (APM) system which opened at the Miami International Airport (MIA) in metropolitan Miami, Florida, United States on September 9, 2011. The MIA Mover is designed to quickly transport landside passengers between Miami International Airport's Main Terminal and the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC). The MIA Mover is one of three separate automated people movers operating at the airport. The others are the Skytrain, which operates within Concourse D, and the MIA e Train people mover connecting Concourse E's satellite building.
The Skytrain is an automated people mover (APM) at Miami International Airport (MIA) in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. One of three APMs at MIA, it operates within Concourse D and connects four stations over a distance of 0.70 miles (1.12 km). It uses Crystal Mover vehicles, which are fully-automated and travel along the roof of the terminal. The system has transported up to 40,000 passengers daily.
The Dubai International Airport Automated People Mover is a driverless people mover located within Dubai International Airport. It operates in two "segments" within Terminal 3 and Concourse A & B, often referred to as the Terminal 3 APM, and between Terminals 1 and Concourse D will referred to as the Terminal 1 APM.

The Tampa International Airport People Movers are a set of automated people mover systems operating within Tampa International Airport. The primary set of people movers are automated guideway transit (AGT) systems that connect the airport's main terminal to four satellite airside concourses. Opened in 1971, the landside/airside shuttles were the first people movers used to transport passengers within an airport terminal. A fifth people mover line known as SkyConnect, which began operating in 2018, connects the main terminal with the airport's economy parking garage and rental car center. In addition, a monorail once connected the main terminal and the long-term parking garage from 1991 until its closure in 2020.
Shanghai Pudong Airport APM is an automated people mover in the Pudong International Airport. In the initial phase, there are two lines, each connecting a terminal building and a satellite hall. The two lines are planned to be connected after the completion of Terminal 3 in the future. The system uses Class A stocks, currently in a 4-car configuration, with conditions reserved for a 5-car configuration across the fleet.
