Shenyang Modern Tram is a tram network operating in Hunnan New District in southern Shenyang, Liaoning province, People's Republic of China. The tram system mostly uses a traditional overhead line system, but some sections are wireless with the tram running partly on super-capacitor batteries charging at every stop, the first such system in Asia. It is the longest tram system in China. [2]

Shenyang once had the largest tramway network (c. 1925) in China with service completely stopping in 1974. Trams returned in Shenyang with the opening of the Shenyang Modern Tram in 2013. The whole plan of Shenyang Modern Tram is running from Olympic Centre, near Aotizhongxin station of Shenyang Metro Line 2 to Shenfu Xincheng, Expo Centre and Taoxian Airport. The Shenyang tram system is funded by a BT model investment of CNY 4.82 billion by the construction and RATP Dev Transdev Asia, which is a joint venture between Transdev (formerly Veolia Transport) and RATP Dev. The line is operated by the city-owned "Shenyang Hunnan Modern Transport Co., Ltd" (51%) and RATP Dev Transdev Asia (49%). [3] [4] [5]

From 1 March 2019, the base fare is 2 Yuan for journeys under 8 km (5.0 mi), 3 yuan for journeys between 8 and 16 km (4.97 and 9.94 mi), and 4 yuan for journeys longer than 16 km (9.94 mi). [6]

Before 1 March 2019, the implementation of a single one-way fare as 2 Yuan.

Tram payment is possible via both cash and IC card.

Description

Line 3 runs from Century Building (where it interchanges with the Subway Line 2 station Shijidasha) to Expo Centre via University Science City. At North-Eastern University it interchanges with Line 1.

Depots & termini

The two tram depots are in Hunnan and Dadianzicun. Terminuses are Olympic Centre, Shenfu Xincheng, Expo Centre and Taoxian Airport.

Alignment and interchanges

The modern tram routes partly run on unreserved track in middle of the road, partly on grass-bed, and partly on raised rail track.

There are interchanges with Shenyang Metro Line 2 – one at Aoti Zhongxin, the other at Baitahelu.

Rolling stock

The fleet consists of two types of trains: a 70% low-floor 3 segment trams and 100% low-floor 5 segment trams. The 70% low-floor 3 segment trams can has a capacity of 301 passengers and is 28.8m long, 2.650m wide with a floor height of 380mm. [8] [9] The first batch consists of 20 70% low-floor trams. [10] Another batch of 5 trams for the Shenfu interurban line were ordered from CRRC Zhuhai. [11] The 10 sets of 100% low floor trams are designed by IFS Design and manufactured by Voith together with CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles. [12] The 100% low floor trams are 38.4m long. [13]

TEDA Modern Guided Rail Tram was a Translohr Light Rail line in Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA). It was a modern, high-speed rubber-tyred tram line, the first in both China and Asia. The line was considered as part of the Tianjin Metro system. It was run by Tianjin Binhai Mass Transit Development Co., Ltd, which has been a subsidiary of Tianjin Rail Transit Group Corporation since 2017.

Zhangjiang Tram was a tram network operating in Shanghai that utilised a Translohr system. Shanghai originally had a steel wheeled electric tramway network in its urban center. Routes expanded gradually and reached largest extent in 1925 with 328 tramcars; this tram system shut down in 1975. Tram service returned to Shanghai with the opening of a rubber tired Translohr line in the suburban Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in 2010. It is the second rubber-tired tram system in both China and Asia, the first being TEDA tram in Tianjin.

Shenyang, a major industrial city on the Hun River in northeast China has returned its tramway as a modern tram system. Shenyang once had a standard steel wheeled tramway network. Unlike other Chinese towns & cities, Shenyang's tram system was not opened directly as an electric tram. The tram service was completely stopped in 1973. On 15 August, 2013 Shenyang opened a modern tram system in Hunnan New District south of central Shenyang.

The Zhuhai tram network was a light rail system serving the city of Zhuhai, Guangdong, China. The first section of Line 1 started trial operation on November 7, 2014 with the full line scheduled initially to open by August 2015 and finally opened on 13 June 2017 and runs from Haitian Gardens to Shangchong. However, facing the problems of frequent breakdowns and low passenger flow, the operation of Zhuhai Tram Line 1 was never carried out smoothly and the Government decided to stop its operation in January 2021 and then to dismantle it in May 2024.

Île-de-France tramway Line 9 is a tram line which is a part of the modern tramway network of the Île-de-France region of France. Line 9 connects Porte de Choisy Paris Métro station and the centre of Orly serving suburbs in the south-east of Paris. Line 9 does not serve Orly Airport, which is currently served by tramway Line 7. The line has a length of 10.3 km (6.4 mi) and 19 stations. The line opened to the public on 10 April 2021.

Su Hongzhang is a former Chinese politician, and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of Liaoning Province. He was dismissed from his position in April 2016 for investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

RATP Dev Asia is a subsidiary of RATP Dev that operates public transport services in Asia. It was previously the RATP Dev Transdev Asia (RDTA), a 50/50 joint venture owned by RATP Dev and Transdev until October 2020.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Songjiang Tram</span> Overview of transport in Shanghai

Songjiang Tram is a light rail tramway in Shanghai, China. The system consists of two lines totaling 31 km (19 mi) with 42 stations. Unlike the Zhangjiang Tram, Songjiang trams use centenary power supply and steel-wheeled rail systems. Most of them use independent rights of way. The intersection signal lights were adjusted through the system to make them pass first, and the running speed reaches 25-30km/h. Trains run from 6:00 till 22:00. With further extension of the network public transport modal split in Songjiang is expected from the current 23% to 40%.

Tianshui Tram is a light rail system consisting of one route in Qinzhou District and Maiji District, Tianshui, Gansu, China.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Line 2 (Chengdu Tram)</span> Tram line in Chengdu, China

Chengdu Tram Line 2 is a tram line in Chengdu, China. The line has a total length of 39.3 kilometres (24.4 mi) and 35 stations. It has a 'Y' layout and runs from the Chengdu West railway station to Pixian West railway station and Hongguang. The line was officially started in December 2015, and the 13.7 km (8.5 mi) demonstration section of the line was opened on 26 December 2018, and the remaining sections were opened on 27 December 2019.
