The 1949 season was the nineteenth completed season of Finnish Football League Championship, known as the Mestaruussarja.

Mestaruussarja was the top division of Finnish football from 1930 to 1989. It was replaced by Veikkausliiga in 1990.

Overview

The Mestaruussarja was administered by the Finnish Football Association and the competition's 1949 season was contested by 12 teams. TPS Turku won the championship and the four lowest placed teams of the competition, HIFK Helsinki, HJK Helsinki, HPS Helsinki and TuTo Turku, were relegated to the Suomensarja. [1]

Turun Palloseura, commonly known as TPS, is a professional football club based in Turku, Finland, that competes in the Veikkausliiga, the top flight of Finnish Football. Nicknamed "Tepsi", the club was founded in 1922.

Suomensarja was the second highest level of league format association football in Finland from 1936 to 1972.
