Michael John Savage is a Canadian politician who is the 34th and current lieutenant governor of Nova Scotia. He was the mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality from 2012 to 2024. He previously served as a Liberal member of Parliament for the riding of Dartmouth—Cole Harbour from 2004 to 2011.
Halifax Regional Council is the governing body of Halifax, known as the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Halifax is governed by a mayor-council system, where councillors are elected from sixteen geographic districts though a first-past-the-post system and the mayor is elected via a municipality-wide first-past-the-post vote. Halifax Regional Council was formed in 1996 and consisted of twenty-three councillors and one mayor. It was reduced in size to sixteen councillors and the mayor in 2012. Since the 2004 municipal elections, the Town of Lac La Biche and Lakeland County amalgamated to form Lac La Biche County, the villages of Irricana and Onoway became towns, the Town of Brooks became a city, and the Village of Sangudo was dissolved.
Rebecca J. Kent is a Canadian politician. She represented the electoral district of Cole Harbour-Eastern Passage in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 2007 to 2013. She was a member of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party. She presently sits on the Halifax Regional Council.
