Armando Carlos Silva e Costa is an Angolan professional basketball guard. Costa plays for the Angolan side of Primeiro de Agosto in the Angolan league BIC Basket and at the Africa Champions Cup. With the Angola national basketball team, he represented Angola at the 2006 FIBA World Championship, 2007 African Championship and 2008 Summer Olympics.

Walter Gerson Correia da Rocha Monteiro is a former Angolan professional basketball player. He was a member of the Angola national basketball team. He is also a Portuguese citizen. He ended his career playing for Recreativo do Libolo at the Angolan major basketball league BAI Basket.

Joaquim Brandão Gomes, also known as "Kikas", is a retired Angolan professional basketball player. He has played professionally in Germany and the Netherlands.

Maurice Beyina is a French former basketball player who played seven seasons in the LNB Pro A. He won the French championship in 1992 as a member of EB Pau-Orthez. He played for the Central African Republic national basketball team from 1997 to 2005.

Destin Damachoua is a Central African-French basketball player who played for the University of New Orleans. He is also a member of the Central African Republic national basketball team.

Yann Ulrich Stéphane Lasme is a Gabonese professional basketball player. He played college basketball at the University of Massachusetts (UMass), with the UMass Minutemen, and he was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the second round, 46th overall, in the 2007 NBA draft. He earned an All-EuroLeague Second Team selection in 2014 and won the EuroLeague Best Defender award in 2013.

The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches were organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to decide the participating teams of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, the 31st edition of the international men's football championship of Africa. A total of 16 teams qualified to play in the final tournament, including Gabon who qualified automatically as hosts.
