The 1999 FIBA Africa Championship was the 20th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Angola from July 29 to August 6, 1999.

Contents

Angola defeated Nigeria 79–72 in the final to win their fifth title. [1] and securing a spot at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

The 2003 FIBA Africa Championship was the 22nd FIBA Africa Championship, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Egypt from August 7 to 16 2003.

The FIBA Africa Basketball League was the highest caliber men's professional basketball competition for clubs until 2020, organized by the FIBA Africa and played by the champions of the leagues of the African countries. The league was replaced by the Basketball Africa League (BAL) from 2020.

Jean-Jacques Nzadi da Conceição, more commonly known as J.J. Conceição or Jean-Jacques, is an Angolan-Portuguese retired professional basketball player. A 2.02 m, 100 kg (220 lbs.) power forward, he represented Angola at the AfroBasket, where he won a record seven African titles. At the club level, he won five Angolan League championship titles with Primeiro de Agosto and four Angolan Cups, before moving to Benfica in Portugal, where he won seven Portuguese national championships and three Portuguese Federation Cups. He also went on to play for CSP Limoges in France, Baloncesto Málaga in Spain, and Portugal Telecom in Portugal.

AfroBasket 2009 was the 25th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the African zone thereof. At stake were the three berths allocated to Africa in the 2010 FIBA World Championship. The tournament was hosted by Libya after Nigeria, the original host, withdrew from hosting after not conforming to FIBA Africa guidelines.

Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto is an Angolan men's basketball team based in Luanda. The team is part of the multi-sports club with the same name. The club is attached to the Angolan Armed Forces which is its main sponsor. The team competes at the local level at the Luanda Provincial Basketball Championship and at the BIC Basket. In the past, it has played in the Africa Basketball League competitions.

The 2004 FIBA Africa Basketball Club Championship, was an international basketball tournament held in Cairo, Egypt, from November 20 to 27, 2004. The tournament, organized by FIBA Africa and hosted by Al Ahly, was contested by 7 teams in two groups, in a preliminary round robin system followed by a knockout stage.

The 1998 FIBA Africa Under-18 Championship for Women was the 5th FIBA Africa Under-18 Championship for Women, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Senegal from August 15 to 22, 1999.

The 2007 edition of the men's basketball tournament of the African Games was the 9th, organized by FIBA Africa and played under the auspices of FIBA, the basketball sport governing body. The tournament was held from 12 to 22 July 2007 in Algiers, Algeria, contested by 11 national teams and won by Angola, who defeated Egypt 56–50 in the final to win their third title.

Gerson Henriques Gonçalves, also known as Lukeny, is an Angolan basketball player. He plays for Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League since 2015 and is a two-time league MVP winner.
