The FIBA Africa Championship 1989 was hosted by Angola from December 16 to December 27, 1989. The games were played in Luanda. Angola won the tournament, its first African Championship, by beating Egypt in the final. Both teams qualified for the 1990 FIBA World Championship as a result of their showing in this tournament.

AfroBasket 2009 was the 25th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the African zone thereof. At stake were the three berths allocated to Africa in the 2010 FIBA World Championship. The tournament was hosted by Libya after Nigeria, the original host, withdrew from hosting after not conforming to FIBA Africa guidelines.

It was used to determine which African national basketball teams would qualify for the FIBA Africa Championship 2009. Teams competed with other teams in their respective "zones" for a spot in the Championship tournament.

The 2010 FIBA Africa Basketball Club Championship, was an international basketball tournament held in Cotonou, Benin from 10 December to 19 December 2010. The tournament, organized by FIBA Africa, and hosted by ASO Modele, was contested by 11 clubs split into 2 groups, the top four of which qualifying for the knock-out stage, quarter, semi-finals and final.

The 2011 FIBA Africa Women's Clubs Champions Cup was an international basketball tournament that took place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulele, Lagos, Nigeria, from December 5 to 11, 2011. The tournament, organized by FIBA Africa, and hosted by First Deepwater, was contested by 5 clubs in a round robin system followed by a third-place match played by the 3rd and 4th placed teams from the preliminary round and a final played by the two top teams from the same round.
