The 2008 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying was the twelfth edition of the CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying, the quadrennial, international, age-restricted football tournament organized by CONCACAF to determine which men's under-23 national teams from the North, Central America and Caribbean region qualify for the Olympic football tournament. It was held in the United States, from 11 and 23 March 2008. [1]

Contents

Honduras won the title after with a 1–0 win over the United States in the final. As the top two teams, Honduras and the United States both qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in China as the CONCACAF representatives. [2]

Cuban defections

Following the Cuban draw against the United States, seven Cuban players defected, leaving the team with only 11 players which was reduced to 10 against Honduras. Cuba played its final game against Panama with no players available as substitutes because Roberto Linares was sent off from Cuba's match against the United States causing him to be automatically suspended for the team's next match. The 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the tenth edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup competition, and the twentieth soccer championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). It was played from July 3 to 26, 2009 in the United States. This competition was the fourth tournament without guests from other confederations. Mexico won their fifth Gold Cup, and eighth CONCACAF Championship overall, after beating the United States 5–0 in the final. It was the second consecutive Gold Cup final and fourth overall to feature Mexico and the United States and the third won by Mexico.

The 2009 CONCACAF U-20 Championship qualifying tournament determined the Caribbean and Central American Under-20 association football national teams that would participate in the 2009 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, which itself will qualify national teams to the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Qualification began on 14 May 2008. The final round of qualification was a one-game playoff on 2 March 2009, between the runner-up from the Caribbean zone, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and the 3rd-place finisher from the Central American zone, Honduras. The three North American zone nations, Canada, Mexico, and the United States, as well as tournament hosts Trinidad and Tobago, were automatically entered into the final tournament without need for qualification.

The 2010 CFU Club Championship was the 12th edition of the CFU Club Championship, the annual international club football competition in the Caribbean region, held amongst clubs whose football associations are affiliated with the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). The qualifying stage of the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship competition is handled by two regional bodies; the Caribbean Football Union and the UNCAF.

The championship stage of the 2012–13 CONCACAF Champions League was played from March 5 to May 1, 2013. A total of eight teams competed in the championship stage.

Group C of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup was one of three groups competing at the tournament. The group's first round of matches were played on July 9, with the final round played on July 16. All six group matches were played at venues in the United States, in Portland, Oregon, Sandy, Utah and East Hartford, Connecticut. The group consisted of the host, and four time Gold Cup champions, United States, as well as Belize, Costa Rica and Cuba. Three members of the Belizean team told FIFA officials that they were offered a bribe to throw their match against the United States. They declined the offer and a subsequent offer to not report the bribery attempt.

The United States and Trinidad and Tobago were eliminated in this round.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">United States at the CONCACAF Gold Cup</span> Soccer tournament participation

The United States national team has participated in all seventeen editions of the CONCACAF Gold Cup since its foundation in 1991 to replace the CONCACAF Championship. The United States is also the second-most successful team in the tournament, having won seven titles since the beginning of the Gold Cup, behind Mexico by just two titles. Before the Gold Cup however, the United States only qualified for two of the previous ten CONCACAF Championships.
