The 2008 Billboard Latin Music Awards , produced and broadcast live on Telemundo, was held on Thursday, April 10, 2008. The award show aired on Telemundo at 7pm EST.
The Billboard Latin Music Awards grew out of the Billboard Music Awards program from Billboard magazine, an industry publication charting the sales and radio airplay success of musical recordings. The Billboard awards are the Latin music industry’s longest running award. The award ceremonies are held during the same week of the Billboard Latin Music Conference. The first award ceremony began in 1994. In addition to awards given on the basis of success on the Billboard charts, the ceremony includes the Spirit of Hope award for humanitarian achievements and the Lifetime Achievement award, as well as awards by the broadcasting partner. Musician Enrique Iglesias has won 47 awards, the colombian Shakira has won 41 awards. The Billboard Latin Music includes entrants from the United States, Latin America, and Spain, although other countries are eligible if an artist performs Latin music.
Telemundo is an American Spanish language terrestrial television network owned by Comcast through NBCUniversal. It is the second largest provider of Spanish language content nationally behind American competitor Univision, with programming syndicated worldwide to more than 100 countries in over 35 languages.

Nahuel Schajris Rodríguez is an Argentine-Mexican singer, songwriter and pianist based in Mexico who experienced chart-topping success as part of the duo Sin Bandera until he and fellow singer and songwriter Leonel García concluded their partnership in 2007. Schajris began his solo career in 2009 with the release of his first full-length solo album Uno No Es Uno, which was received with critical and commercial success, reaching number 10 on Billboard's Latin Pop Albums chart and number 27 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart.

The Lo Nuestro Excellence Award is an award honoring honoring an artist's contribution to Latin music. It was first awarded at the 2nd Annual Lo Nuestro Awards in 1990 and has since been presented annually. The Lo Nuestro Awards were established by American television network Univision in 1989 to recognize the most talented performers of Latin music. Before the inception of the Latin Grammy Awards in 2000, the Lo Nuestro Awards were considered to be the Latin music equivalent of the Grammy Awards. Unlike the other award categories, where the nominees and winners are decided by the public through an online survey, the recipients of the Excellence Award are selected by Univision and Billboard magazine. The trophy awarded is shaped in the form of a treble clef. During the presentation, a tribute is held to the winner which features highlights of their career and several artists performing live covers of the recipient's notable songs.
