The 29th Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony, presented by Billboard to honor the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music, took place on September 29, 2022, at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida. [1] The ceremony was broadcast by Telemundo.

Contents

The nominations were announced on August 18, 2022. [2] Puerto Rican singer Chayanne received the Icon Award at the ceremony. [3] Christina Aguilera was honored with the Spirit of Hope award, and also performed.

Winners and nominees

The nominations were announced on August 18, 2022. Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny received the most nominations (23, winning 9), followed by Colombian singer Karol G (15, winning 3), Puerto Rican artists Farruko (11, winning 3), and Rauw Alejandro (10, winning 2), Dominican group Aventura (7) and Mexican regional group Eslabon Armado (6). [2] With his 23 nominations, Bad Bunny became one of two artists to receive that number of nominations in a single ceremony, the other being Ozuna, at the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Eslabon Armado is an American regional Mexican group from Patterson, California formed in 2017. The group consists of Pedro Tovar, Brian Tovar (bass), Damian Pacheco, and Ulises González, with González joining in 2021 after Hidalgo left the group in 2020, with the Tovar brothers being the only consistent members.

The 7th Annual Latin American Music Awards were held at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were broadcast live on Telemundo. Bad Bunny lead the nominations with ten nods, while Karol G was the top winner, with ten nods.

The Premios Tu Música Urbano is a music industry awards ceremony presented by television network Telemundo Puerto Rico to recognize artists who "transcended and boosted the success of Latin urban music around the world" for the past year. The show has been held annually at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico, since 2019, produced by Telemundo, Sora & Company and Mr. & Mrs. Entertainment, and broadcast by Telemundo Puerto Rico and by Telemundo. The awards were founded after an obvious lack of recognition of reggaetón, urbano and Latin trap artists was observed at the Latin Grammy Awards, as well as the (former) absence of any Latin urbano/reggaetón categories at the American Grammy Awards. Both organizations have since expanded their representation and categories.

Pedro Julián Tovar Jr. is an American singer and songwriter of Mexican origin of regional Mexican music, known for being the lead vocalist, co-founder, and only constant member of the Regional Mexican group Eslabón Armado, along with his brother Brian Tovar, also an only constant member. In 2021 and 2022, Eslabón Armado was the winner of the Billboard Music Awards in the category, Top Latin Dúo/Group and Regional Mexican Artist of the Year – Duo or Group.
