The 2009–10 Azerbaijan Premier League was the eighteenth season of top-tier football in Azerbaijan. It began on 14 August 2009 and finished in May 2010. FK Baku were the defending champions.
The Azerbaijan Cup 2009–10 was the 18th season of the annual cup competition in Azerbaijan. It started on 17 September 2009 with four games of the preliminary round and ended on 22 May 2009 with the Final held at Tofiq Bahramov Stadium in Baku. FK Karabakh were the defending champions. Twenty teams competed in this year's competition.
The Gabala FC 2009–10 season was Gabala's fourth Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their fourth season under manager Ramiz Mammadov. They finished the season in sixth place and were knocked out of the Azerbaijan Cup at the last 16 stage by Olimpik-Shuvalan. Their kit was supplied by Erreà and their main sponsor was Hyundai.

The Baku 2012–13 season is Baku's fifteenth Azerbaijan Premier League season. This is Baku's first season under Božidar Bandović, who replaced Novruz Azimov after the UEFA Europa League qualifiers where they were beaten 2–0 on aggregate by Mura 05 of Slovenia. Baku will also participate in the 2012–13 Azerbaijan Cup.
The 2009–10 season is Neftchi Baku's eighteenth Azerbaijan Premier League season. They started the season under the management of Boyukaga Aghayev before he left by mutual consent in mid September. Aghayev was replaced by Vagif Sadygov, who lasted 5 months before being sacked in mid February and replaced by Arif Asadov.
The Khazar Lankaran 2009–10 season is Khazar Lankaran's fifth Azerbaijan Premier League season. It was Khazar's first season under Agaselim Mirjavadov. Khazar finished the season in 4th place and where runners-up in the Azerbaijan Cup.
The Inter Baku 2009–10 season was Inter Baku's ninth Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their first season under manager Kakhaber Tskhadadze. Inter finished as Champions of the Azerbaijan Premier League, earning themselves entry into the 2010–11 UEFA Champions League at the Second qualifying round stage. They also participated in the 2009–Azerbaijan Cup, getting knocked out in the Semi-Final stage by eventual winners FK Baku, and the UEFA Europa League where they were beaten in the first qualifying round by Spartak Trnava of Slovakia 5-2 on aggregate.
The Qarabağ 2009–10 season was Qarabağ's 17th Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their second season under Gurban Gurbanov. They finished the season in 3rd place, and were knocked out of the 2009–10 Azerbaijan Cup at the quarterfinal stage by Khazar Lankaran. They also participated in the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League, entering at the Second Qualifying Round stage. They beat Rosenborg BK of Norway, before beating FC Honka of Finland in the Third Qualifying Round. This meant they faced FC Twente of the Netherlands in the Play-off Round, which they lost 1-3 on aggregate.
The Olimpik-Shuvalan 2009–10 season was Olimpik-Shuvalan's fifth Azerbaijan Premier League season and their first season with Nazim Suleymanov as manager. They participated in the 2009–10 Azerbaijan Premier League as well as the 2009–10 Azerbaijan Cup, finishing the league in 7th place and being knocked out of the Cup at the Semifinal stage by Khazar Lankaran.
The Neftchi Baku 2008–09 season was Neftchi Baku's seventeenth Azerbaijan Premier League season. They started the season under the management of Anatoliy Demyanenko, however he was replaced by Hans-Jürgen Gede on 1 September 2008. On 28 February 2009 Gede was replaced Boyukaga Agaev, who was in charge until the end of the season. They finished 8th in the league and were knocked out of the Azerbaijan Cup at the quarterfinal stage by Karabakh. Neftchi also took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup, reaching the Third Round before losing to Vaslui of Romania.
The Khazar Lankaran 2008–09 season is Khazar Lankaran's fourth Azerbaijan Premier League season. Khazar started the season under the management of Rasim Kara, however he was replaced by Igor Ponomaryov during the season. Khazar finished the season in 4th place and were knocked out of the Azerbaijan Cup at the quarterfinal stage by Baku.
The FK Baku 2008-09 season was Baku's 11th Azerbaijan Premier League season, and was their second season with Gjoko Hadžievski as their manager, having replaced Boyukagha Hajiyev in July 2007. They finished the season in 1st place in the league and were knocked out of the Azerbaijan Cup at the Semi-final stage by Qarabağ.
The Inter Baku 2008–09 season was Inter Baku's eighth Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their third season under manager Valentin Khodukin. They finished 2nd in the league one point behind champions Baku.
The Qarabağ 2008–09 season was Qarabağ's 16th Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their first season under Gurban Gurbanov. They finished the season in 5th place, and won the Azerbaijan Cup defeating Inter Baku in the final.

The Simurq PFC 2009–10 season was Simurq's fourth Azerbaijan Premier League season, which they finished in 8th position. They were knocked out of the Azerbaijan Cup by Olimpik-Shuvalan at the quarterfinal stage. It was their fourth and final season with Roman Pokora as their manager.
The Olimpik Baku 2007–08 season was Olimpik Baku's third Azerbaijan Premier League season and their second season with Asgar Abdullayev as manager. They participated in the 2007–08 Azerbaijan Premier League as well as the 2007–08 Azerbaijan Cup, finishing the league in 2nd, qualifying for a European competition for the first time, and reaching the quarterfinal stage of the cup, where they were eliminated by Khazar Lankaran.
