The 2012 Australian Open women's doubles was a tournament that took place during the 2012 Australian Open at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia.

Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta were the defending champions, but lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva in the third round.
The unseeded Russian pair went on to defeat Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, 5–7, 6–4, 6–3, for the title.

Maria Sharapova defeated Sara Errani in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2012 French Open. It was her first French Open title, and she completed the career Grand Slam with the win. It was Sharapova's first major title since the 2008 Australian Open, and her first since a shoulder surgery that threatened to end her career four years prior. She lost only one set during the tournament, to Klára Zakopalová in the fourth round. Sharapova regained the world No. 1 ranking with the win; Victoria Azarenka and Agnieszka Radwańska were also in contention for the top spot.

Andrea Hlaváčková and Lucie Hradecká were the defending champions, but lost in the semifinals to Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova.

This also marked Pennetta's last major appearance, as she retired from the sport at the end of the 2015 season. Vinci became the first unseeded woman to reach a major final since Justine Henin at the 2010 Australian Open. The final made Italy the fifth country in the Open Era to have two countrywomen contest a major final. This also marked the first final with two first-time major finalists since the 2010 French Open.

Lucie Šafářová was the defending champion, but did not compete this year.
