2013 Hockey India League, known as Hero Hockey India League and abbreviated as HIL 2013 was the first season of the field hockey tournament Hockey India League. Tournament was scheduled to start from 5 January to 3 February but was postponed to 14 January to 10 February. [1]

Contents

Rules and regulations

Five teams took part in the tournament and each team played three matches against each team, one at their home venue and one at the venue of the opposition team. The third match was played against the other four teams two at home and two away. [2]

The points in the league phase of the tournament were awarded as follows:

If at the end of the League two or more teams had the same number of points for any place, these teams would be ranked according to the following order: [2]

  1. respective number of matches won;
  2. respective goal difference (goals for less goals against). A positive goal difference always takes precedence over a negative one;
  3. respective number of goals scored;
  4. the cumulative results of the two matches played between those two teams taking firstly the points won in the two matches, secondly the goal difference, and thirdly the number of goals scored

The semi-final, third and fourth place playoff and the final of 2013 HIL were played on 9 and 10 February at Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi. [3]

Players

The players' auction for first season of HIL took place on 16 December in New Delhi. A total of 246 players were available for the auction out of which 120 players were bought by the franchises which included 50 foreign and 70 local players. [4]

Moritz Fürste is a German field hockey player. He was a member of the Men's National Team that won the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics as well as at the 2006 World Cup. Hockey India League (HIL), known as the Coal India Hockey India League is a professional field hockey league in India. The league is organized by Hockey India, the governing body for the sport in India. HIL, along with the Indian Premier League, Indian Super League, and Pro Kabaddi League, is considered one of the major sports leagues in the country. HIL consists of six teams, with the regular season lasting two months from January to February, with each team playing 10 games. The top four teams at the end of the season move into the play-offs, where the championship game decides the Hockey India League winner.

The captain of the team for HIL 2016 is Simon Child with Rupinder Pal Singh being the Vice-Captain of the team. Mr. Cedric Dsouza is the chief coach of the team for HIL 2016.

Ranchi Rhinos was a field hockey team based in Ranchi, Jharkhand that played in the Hockey India League. The team won the inaugural season of Hockey India League defeating Delhi Waveriders by 2-1. It is owned by Patel-Uniexcel Group. South African Gregg Clark is the head coach for the team assisted by Olympian Baljit Singh Saini. German midfielder, two time Olympic champion, Moritz Fürste is the captain of the team. It was dissolved in 2014 after its owners had some dispute with HIL management. It has been replaced by Ranchi Rays.

Jaypee Punjab Warriors is a field hockey team based in Chandigarh, Punjab that plays in the Hockey India League. It is owned by Jaypee Group. Former Australian coach Barry Dancer serves as the head coach for the team while former India player Jagbir Singh has been taken on board as an advisor and coaching staff.

The 2016 Hockey India League (HIL) is the fourth season of the professional field hockey tournament. The Hockey India League began on 18 January and concluded with Punjab Warriors as champion against Kalinga Lancers in the final on 21 February.

Akashdeep Singh is an Indian professional field hockey player who plays as a forward for Uttar Pradesh Wizards in the Hockey India League and the India hockey team.

The 2016 season is Ranchi Rays' second season in the Hockey India League. The season covers the period from 18 January to 21 February 2016. The season saw the introduction of a new rule according to which weightage for field goals was double compared to the goals scored from penalty corners, meaning a field goal will count as two while successfully converted short corner will still be considered as one goal.

Nithin Thimmaiah Nithin Thimmaiah is an Indian Field Hockey player from Kodagu (Coorg) district, Karnataka. He represented the Indian Hockey team in various international tournaments since his debut in 2012. He currently represents the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) in domestic hockey.

The 2017 Hockey India League, known as Coal India Hockey India League for sponsorship reasons, was the fifth season of the Hockey India League. It was held between 21 January and 26 February 2017. Kalinga Lancers beat Dabang Mumbai 4–1 in the final to win their first title. Six teams played 34 matches in six venues with final played in Sector 42 Stadium, Chandigarh. The prize money was announced to be 3 crores INR.

The 2017 season is Ranchi Rays' third season in the Hockey India League. The season covers the period from 21 January to 26 February 2017.
