On 6 December 2015, a car bomb attack killed Aden governor, Major General Jaafar Mohammed Saad, and his entourage. Saad's caravan was traveling to his office in a western district of Aden. [1] [2] [3]

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant Yemen branch claimed responsibility for the car bomb. [4] [1] [2] They described Saad as an oppressor and infidel and threatened further attacks in Yemen. The group stated that they detonated the bomb as Saad's convoy passed where the car was parked. [1] [2]

The explosion was powerful and was heard from 10 km away. [5] [4] Six bodyguards of Saad were killed and several people injured. Medics stated the victims bodies were unrecognizable. Photographs, supposedly of the attack, showed a burning, wrecked car. [4] [2]

The Islamic State released a video under Aden-Abyan Province media, which the bombing was part of it.[ citation needed ]

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the blast, which killed at least 21 people. The event is the second deadly attack against Shia in six months.

A suicide car bombing occurred on 17 July 2015 in the Iraqi city of Khan Bani Saad, targeting a local marketplace. As of 19 July 2015 approximately 130 people were killed in the bombing, with a similar number of injured. Several people were killed by collapsed buildings. The bomb was hidden under an ice truck in an attempt to attract more people amid the heat. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The October 2015 Aden missile attack occurred on 6 October 2015, when a group of attackers targeted the Al-Qasr hotel which housed the Vice President and Prime Minister of Yemen; and served as a de facto military base for the Arab Coalition and the Yemen Army units loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. Although the Houthis were first suspected by Yemeni Transport Minister Badr Basalma of being behind the attack, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant claimed responsibility for the attack.

The suicide bombing occurred in a gathering of soldiers who were to receive their salaries on 10 December 2016. The blasts took place at same military base camps on 18 December 2016.
