2016 FIBA Asia U-18 Championship | |
The 2016 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship was the 24th edition of the Asian Championship for Junior Men aged 18 years old and below. The tournament was held in Tehran, Iran from July 22 to 31, 2016. The top three teams will qualify and will represent FIBA Asia the 2017 FIBA Under-19 World Championship in Egypt. [1] This will be the second time the country will host the tournament after successfully staging the 20th edition eight years ago.
According to the FIBA Asia rules, the number of participating teams in the FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship is sixteen. Each of the six FIBA Asia Sub-Zones had two places, and the hosts (Iran) and holders (China) were automatically qualified. The other four places are allocated to the zones according to performance in the 2014 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship. [2] [3] [4]

Basketball at the 2004 Summer Olympics was the sixteenth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at the Helliniko Olympic Indoor Arena, a part of the Hellinikon Olympic Complex, in Athens, for the preliminary rounds, with the later stages being held in the Olympic Indoor Hall at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex.

The 2015 FIBA Americas Championship for Men, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the FIBA Americas qualifying tournament for the 2016 Summer Olympics, in Brazil. This FIBA AmeriCup tournament was held in Mexico City, Mexico. The tournament was won for the first time by the Venezuelan national basketball team. Venezuela and runner-up Argentina, qualified directly for the 2016 Olympics. They joined the FIBA Americas member, United States, who qualified for the Olympics by virtue of winning the 2014 FIBA World Cup, and they elected not to participate at this tournament; and FIBA Americas member, Brazil, who finished 9th in the tournament, but qualified for the Olympics as the host nation. Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, the next three highest-finishing teams, qualified for the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, but none of them won their respective qualifying tournaments, therefore eliminating their 2016 Olympic hopes.

The top four teams qualified and will represent FIBA Asia in the 2019 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Thailand.

The 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup. The tournament, which was also the 25th edition of the biennial competition, was held in Bangalore, India from 5 to 11 September. The top four teams qualified and will represent FIBA Asia in the 2023 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Spain.
The 2024 FIBA Under-18 Women's Asia Cup was the 26th edition of the biennial competition, to be held in Shenzhen, China from 24 to 30 June 2024. The top four teams qualified and will represent FIBA Asia in the 2025 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Czech Republic.
