The 2016–17 Vanderbilt Commodores men's basketball team represented Vanderbilt University in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was Bryce Drew's first year as the Vanderbilt head coach. The Commodores played their home games at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tennessee as members of the Southeastern Conference. They finished the season 19–16, 10–8 in SEC play to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place. They defeated Texas A&M and Florida in the SEC tournament before losing in the semifinals to Arkansas. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the First Round to Northwestern. Vanderbilt entered the NCAA Tournament with 15 losses, the most ever by any at-large team. [1]
The Commodores finished the 2015–16 season 19–14, 11–7 in SEC play to finish in a three-way tie for third place. They lost in the second round of the SEC tournament to Tennessee. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the First Four to Wichita State.
On March 27, 2017, head coach Kevin Stallings resigned to become the head coach at Pittsburgh. [2] Shortly thereafter, the school hired Valparaiso head coach Bryce Drew as head coach. [3]

Bryce Homer Drew is an American college basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the Grand Canyon Antelopes. Previously he served as the head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores and in the same capacity at his alma mater, Valparaiso, having succeeded his father, Homer Drew. Drew has led his teams to the NCAA tournament on six occasions, including at least once at each of the three schools where he has been the head coach.
Kevin Eugene Stallings is a former American basketball coach, who formerly served as the head coach at Illinois State University, Vanderbilt University and the University of Pittsburgh. He was an assistant coach at Purdue University and the University of Kansas.
The Valparaiso Beacons men's basketball team represents Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. The basketball team competes in the Missouri Valley Conference, having joined that league in 2017 after 10 seasons in the Horizon League. The Beacons play in the Athletics-Recreation Center, which has a nominal capacity of 5,432. The record capacity 5,444 was reached on March 23, 2016, in the NIT Quarterfinal. The team last played in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2015.

The 2009–10 Vanderbilt Commodores men's basketball team represented Vanderbilt University in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I men's college basketball season. The team competed in the East Division of the Southeastern Conference, as it has since the SEC expanded to 12 schools in 1991. The team was led by Kevin Stallings, in his tenth year as head coach, and played their home games at their home since 1952, Memorial Gymnasium on the school's campus in Nashville, Tennessee. They finished the season 24–9, 12–4 in SEC play. They lost in the semifinals of the 2010 SEC men's basketball tournament to Mississippi State. The Commodores received an at-large bid to the 2010 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, earning a 4 seed in the west region, where they lost to 13 seed Murray State in the first round on a last second buzzer beater.

Jacob Michael Diebler is an American basketball coach and former player who currently serves as the head coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team. Since 2019, he had served as an assistant coach at Ohio State. On February 14, 2024, he was named the interim head coach at Ohio State after the firing of head coach Chris Holtmann.
