Kaylee Rochelle McKeown is an Australian swimmer and triple Olympic gold medalist. She is the world record holder in the long course 50 metre backstroke, 100 metre backstroke and both the long course and short course 200 metre backstroke. She won gold in both the 100 metre and 200 metre backstroke, as well as the 4×100 metre medley relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics staged in Tokyo in 2021. In 2023, she was named as the "Best Female Swimmer of the Year" by World Aquatics, after sweeping gold in all three events of backstroke at all three World Cup legs, held in Berlin, Athens and Budapest in October, 2023.

Alessandro Miressi is an Italian swimmer. He is a world record holder in the short course 4×100 metre freestyle relay and an Italian record holder in the long course and short course 100 metre freestyle. In the long course 100 metre freestyle, he was 2018 European champion, 2020 European Championships silver medalist, and 2022 European Championships bronze medalist. In the short course 100 metre freestyle, he was 2021 World champion, 2019 and 2021 European Championships silver medalist, and 2022 World Championships bronze medalist.

Rebecca Meder is a South African swimmer. She is the African record holder in the 100 metre individual medley and the South African record holder in the long course and short course 200 metre individual medley. At the 2022 World Short Course Championships, she placed sixth in the final of the 100 metre individual medley. In the 200 metre individual medley at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she placed fourth in the final. At the 2021 African Championships, she won 11 gold medals, six in individual events and five in relay events, swimming on the finals relay for each of the five relay events.

Victoria "Torri" Huske is an American swimmer. She is the current American record holder in both the 100-meter butterfly and the 50-meter butterfly. At the 2022 Fina World Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Huske, just 19, became one of only four American women in history to win six medals at a World Championships.

Natalie Anisha Hinds is an American professional swimmer specializing in freestyle and butterfly events. She made her international championships debut at 27 years of age, winning a bronze medal in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics, swimming in both the prelims and the final. In her first final at a World Championships in an individual event, she placed eighth in the 100 meter freestyle at the 2022 World Short Course Championships when she was 29 years old. The 16th FINA World Swimming Championships took place from 13 to 18 December 2022 in Melbourne, Australia at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Swimming events in the championships were conducted in a 25-metre outdoor pool.

Analia Pigrée is a French Guianese swimmer who competes internationally representing France. She is the French record holder in the long course and short course 50 metre backstroke and the short course 100 metre backstroke. In the 50 metre backstroke, she won the gold medal at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships, a silver medal at the 2021 European Short Course Championships, and the bronze medal at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships. In the 100 metre backstroke, she won the bronze medal at the 2021 European Short Course Championships.

The Men's 100 metre freestyle competition of the 2022 FINA World Swimming Championships was held on 14 and 15 December 2022.
