The 2018 Indiana Hoosiers baseball team is a college baseball team that represented Indiana University in the 2018 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Hoosiers are members of the Big Ten Conference (B1G) and played their home games at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Indiana. They were led by fourth-year head coach Chris Lemonis.

Contents

Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Hoosiers were selected to play in the 2018 NCAA tournament, beginning in the Austin Regional. [2] The Hoosiers would eventually lose in the final round of the Austin Regional to Texas by a score of 2–3. [3]

Previous season

The Hoosiers finished the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball season 34–24–2 overall (14–9–1 conference) and sixth place in conference standings. The Hoosiers were selected to play in the 2017 NCAA tournament, beginning in the Lexington Regional. [4] The Hoosiers would eventually lose in the second round of the Lexington Regional to Kentucky by a score of 9–14. [5]

Preseason

On July 13, 2017, head coach Lemonis added former East Tennessee State Buccaneers assistant coach Zach Lucas to the same position for the Hoosiers. [8] On December 12, 2017, Lemonis named junior catcher Ryan Fineman and junior right-handed pitcher Pauly Milto to Captain status for the 2018 year. [9]

On December 19, 2017, Indiana University Athletics announced plans to install an LED video scoreboard, beyond the outfield wall. The size of the new scoreboard is estimated to be 26.8 feet (8.16 m) high by 48.7 (14.84 m) feet wide. Installation of the new scoreboard was completed prior to the start of the season. [10]

Season projections

Coming off of an NCAA Regional appearance in 2017, the 2018 Hoosiers were projected to finish first in conference play by B1G coaches and projected to receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. [11] The Hoosiers were ranked in four of the six major preseason polls and rankings, while receiving votes for ranking in the two others. The Hoosiers were ranked #17 by Perfect Game, [12] #24 in the NCBWA Poll, [13] #23 by D1 Baseball [14] and #20 by Baseball America. [15]

Bart Kaufman Field is a baseball field in Bloomington, Indiana. It is home of the Indiana Hoosiers baseball team. The capacity of the facility is 2,500 spectators. It is named after Bart Kaufman, an alumnus who played in 1960-61-62. In 1961 he was the second-leading hitter (.452) in the Big Ten to longtime Detroit Tigers player Bill Freehan of the University of Michigan. Kaufman pledged $2.5 million to get the project going. Many teammates contributed to name the Indiana dugout after longtime baseball coach Ernie Andres. Much of the cost, reported to be in excess of $19 million including Andy Mohr Field for softball, was funded by proceeds from the Big Ten Network.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021 Arizona Wildcats baseball team</span>

The 2021 Arizona Wildcats baseball team represented the University of Arizona during the 2021 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Wildcats played their home games for the 10th season at Hi Corbett Field. The team was coached by Jay Johnson in his 6th season and final season at Arizona. Following the season, Coach Johnson was hired as the head baseball coach at Louisiana State University. The Wildcats ranked 10th in Collegiate Baseball's preseason poll - their highest preseason ranking in any poll since 2013 - and their incoming recruiting class was ranked 4th in the nation by D1Baseball. On May 23, the Wildcats clinched at least a share of the Pac-12 Championship for the first time since the 2012 season that saw the team win the College World Series. Following a 3-11 loss by the Oregon Ducks to the California Golden Bears on May 28, the team clinched their first outright Pac-12 title since 1989. On May 30, Hi Corbett Field was selected as one of the NCAA's 16 postseason Regional sites for the first time since 2012. The following day the Wildcats were selected as the tournaments No. 5 overall seed - their first selection as a top 8 seed since the implementation of the current seeding system in 1999 - marking their first postseason appearance since 2017. On June 6, the Wildcats defeated UC Santa Barbara 5-2 to win the Tucson Regional and advance to their first Super Regional since 2016 when the team forged their way to the College World Series finals. The Wildcats would go on to defeat Ole Miss 2 games to 1, to advance to their 18th College World Series appearance all-time. They subsequently were eliminated in two games, losing to the defending champion from 2019, No. 4 seed Vanderbilt as well as Stanford.

The 2021 Indiana Hoosiers baseball team is a college baseball team that represents Indiana University in the 2021 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Hoosiers are members of the Big Ten Conference (B1G) and play their home games at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Indiana. They are led by third-year head coach Jeff Mercer.

The 2015 Indiana Hoosiers baseball team is a college baseball team that represented Indiana University in the 2015 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Hoosiers are members of the Big Ten Conference (B1G) and played their home games at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Indiana. They were led by first-year head coach Chris Lemonis.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 Michigan Wolverines baseball team</span> American college baseball season

The 2022 Michigan Wolverines baseball team represented the University of Michigan in the 2022 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Wolverines, led by head coach Erik Bakich in his tenth season, are a member of the Big Ten Conference and played their home games at Wilpon Baseball Complex in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Wolverines won the 2022 Big Ten baseball tournament and qualified for the NCAA tournament.

The 2022 Stanford Cardinal baseball team represented Stanford University in the 2022 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Cardinal played their home games at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond under fifth year coach David Esquer.
