The 2019 International Champions Cup Women's Tournament was a tournament of friendly women's association football matches. It was the second edition of the Women's International Champions Cup and took place in Cary, North Carolina, United States, from August 15 to 18, 2019. [1]

Contents

The tournament was hosted by the defending champions, the North Carolina Courage of the National Women's Soccer League, at the 10,000-seater Sahlen's Stadium. [2] They were joined by UEFA Women's Champions League winners Olympique Lyonnais Féminin of France, English FA Women's League Cup winners Manchester City, and Spanish Primera División winners Atlético Madrid Femenino. [1] The matches were organized into two doubleheaders, with the semifinals played on August 15 and the final and third-place match on August 18. [1] [2] For the first time, there was a cash prize awarded to the winning team, paid for by new sponsor Budweiser. [3] The tournament was also broadcast on ESPN. [4]

The final, played on August 18, was a rematch between North Carolina and Lyon. Lyon won 1–0 in front of 8,208 fans. [5]

The North Carolina Courage is a professional women's soccer team based in Cary, North Carolina. It was founded in 2017 after Stephen Malik acquired National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) franchise rights from the Western New York Flash. The Courage is affiliated with the men's team North Carolina FC of the United Soccer League and plays its home games at the Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.

The 2020 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Tournament was the 33rd edition of the ACC Women's Soccer Tournament, which decided the Atlantic Coast Conference champion. All rounds were played at Sahlen's Stadium in Cary, NC.

2021 NWSL Challenge Cup Football tournament season

The 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup was a league cup tournament that took place during the 2021 National Women's Soccer League season. It began on April 9 and ended May 8, one week before the start of the regular season. It was the second iteration of the NWSL Challenge Cup tournament, which had started in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and was announced as a regular event later in 2020. Portland Thorns FC won the 2021 final over NJ/NY Gotham FC in a penalty shootout.
