The 2020 mayoral election of Dhaka North City Corporation was held on 1 February 2020. A total of 6 candidates participated in the election. The result was a victory for the Awami League candidate Atiqul Islam. However, the results were rejected by the main opposition candidate, Tabith Awal of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. [1]
It was the first major election in Bangladesh conducted entirely using electronic voting machines (EVMs) alongside the 2020 Dhaka South City Corporation election. Previously the country had made only limited use of EVMs. The ruling Awami League supported the adoption of EVMs. BNP and Communist Party of Bangladesh leaders said they feared the machines would be used for vote rigging. One concern expressed was that the machines do not have a voter-verified paper audit trail. [2] [3]

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is a self-governing body that governs the municipal areas of Capital Dhaka North Side of Bangladesh. The DNCC government is elected by popular vote every five years. It is headed by a mayor, who presides over 72 councillors.
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was another landslide victory for the Awami League-led Grand Alliance led by Sheikh Hasina. The elections were marred by violence, and were widely considered by opposition politicians and the international community to be rigged.
Monirul Haque Sakku is a Bangladeshi politician and the first and former mayor of the Cumilla City Corporation as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. On 19 May 2022, he was expelled from BNP for breaching party discipline and again joined BNP in 2023. He was pourashva mayor before 2012. He has a daughter, Sunzida Haque.
Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh is a Bangladeshi politician and former mayor of South Dhaka. Previously he served as a member of the Bangladesh Parliament for Dhaka-10 and Dhaka-12 from the Bangladesh Awami League.
Talukder Abdul Khaleque is a Bangladeshi politician who was elected mayor of Khulna City Corporation on third occasions and former Member of Parliament.
A. K. M. Bahauddin Bahar is a Bangladeshi politician from Awami League and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Comilla-6 constituency. His original name is Abul khayer muhammad bahauddin bahar
Md. Zahangir Alam is a former mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, an Awami League politician and businessman. Aligned with the Bangladesh Awami League, he was elected as the second mayor of the Gazipur City Corporation in July 2018. He is the managing director of Honourable Textile Composite Ltd and Z Alam Apparels. He was the general secretary of Gazipur metropolitan Awami League until he was expelled by Awami League central working committee on 19 November 2021. Jahangir was pardoned and got back his Awami League membership on 1 January 2023. The LGRD Ministry suspended Alam on 25 November 2021 from the mayor post of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on the allegations of illegal land grabbing, not compensating people after taking over land for development and working against the public interest.
M. Abdul Latif is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Chittagong-11 and Chittagong-10 constituencies.
Mohammad Atiqul Islam is a Bangladeshi politician, businessman and the former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation. He was elected in the position in the by-election held on 28 February 2019 and took oath on 7 March. Earlier, he served as the president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) during 2013–14.

Mohammad Manjur Alam aka M. Manjur Alam is a Bangladeshi politician and businessman. He is the former Mayor of Chittagong and managing director of Mostafa-Hakim Group.
Bangladesh election commission scandal of 2020 is the revelation of a series of corruption allegations, moral degradation of the commissioners and evidence of gross misconducts before and after the controversial 2018 Bangladeshi general election and 2019 Upazila polls in Bangladesh. Allegations included the misappropriation of around 20 million Bangladeshi taka for imaginary programs, embezzlement of 40.8 million BDT during the recruitment process of election commission staffs, purchasing the electronic voting machine at a higher price than the market rate, usage of extra cars by three election commissioners flouting rules and facilitating continuous and numerous election fraud by not investigating credible allegations of irregularities during the 11th Parliamentary Election and elections in Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations, Khulna City Corporation, and Gazipur City Corporation.

The Mayor of North Dhaka is the highest ranking official of the Dhaka North City Corporation. The Mayor's office administers all city services, public property, most public agencies, and enforces all city and state laws within Dhaka north city.
The 2022 Rangpur City Corporation election was a Bangladeshi local governmental election held on 27 December 2022. The City Corporation elections are held every five years, and this was the third of its kind in Rangpur. The mayor and 44 councilors of the corporation were elected in this election. A total of 9 candidates contested in the mayoral election, and other 246 contesting for general councils and reserved (women) seats. Jatiya Party's Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa held the mayoral post by winning in a huge margin with ruling Awami League's candidate landing as fourth.
