The 2020 season is Urawa Red Diamonds's 20th consecutive season in J1 League, after finishing 14th in the 2019 J1 League. [1] The club also will compete in the J.League Cup.

The 2004 J.League Division 1 season was the 12th season of the J1 League. The league fixture began on March 13, 2004 and ended on December 11, 2004. The Suntory Championship 2004 took place on December 5 and December 11, 2004. The first ever J.League Promotion / relegation Series took place on December 4 and December 12, 2004.
The 2016 Meiji Yasuda J1 League season was the 51st season of top-flight football in Japan and the 24th since the establishment of the J.League in 1992. This was second season of J1 League as renamed from J. League Division 1.
The 2016 Nagoya Grampus season was Nagoya Grampus' 24th season in the J.League Division 1 and 34th overall in the Japanese top flight. Takafumi Ogura managed the team until 23 August, when he was replaced with Boško Gjurovski. Nagoya Grampus finished the season in 16th place, being relegated to J2 League for the first time in their history, whilst being knocked out of the Emperor's Cup at the Second Round stage by Nagano Parceiro and the failing to progress from their J.League Cup group.
The 2015 FC Tokyo season was the club's 15th season and the fourth consecutive in the top division of Japanese football. It was Massimo Ficcadenti's second season as manager.
The 2016 Avispa Fukuoka season is the club's ninth season in the J1 League, they returned to the Japanese top flight after winning the 2015 J2 League playoffs. Avispa Fukuoka will also be competing in the J.League Cup and the Emperor's Cup.
The 2016 seasonwas Kashima's 24th consecutive season in the J1 League, the top-division of professional football in Japan. In addition to the league campaign, the club also competed in the Emperor's Cup, League Cup, Super Cup, and Suruga Bank Championship.
The 2019 season was Urawa Red Diamonds's 19th consecutive season in J1 League, after finishing 5th in the 2018 J1 League. The club also competed in the Emperor's Cup, J.League Cup, Japanese Super Cup and AFC Champions League. They reached the final of the latter competition, losing to Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia by a 0–3 aggregate score.
The 2020 season is Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo's 9th season in the J1 League.
The 2020 Vissel Kobe season was Vissel Kobe's seventh consecutive season in the J1 League following promotion to the top flight in 2013 and their 22nd J1 League season overall. The club also took part in the J. League Cup, the 2020 Japanese Super Cup, and the 2020 AFC Champions League. The club secured their first ever appearances in the latter two competition as winners of the 2019 Emperor's Cup.
The 2020 season is Cerezo Osaka's fourth consecutive season in the top-division of Japanese football following promotion in 2016. In addition to the J1 League, the club also competes in the 2020 Emperor's Cup and the 2020 J.League Cup.
The 2020 season is Kawasaki Frontale's 16th consecutive season in the J1 League, which they won for their third league title in four seasons. They also will compete in the Emperor's Cup and J.League Cup, the latter of which they are defending champions.

The 2022 Júbilo Iwata season was the club's 50th season in existence and the first season back in the top flight of Japanese football. In addition to the domestic league, Júbilo Iwata participated in this season's editions of the Emperor's Cup and the J.League Cup. Finishing at last place at the J1 League, the club got relegated back to the J2 League after just a season back on the first division.
The 2023 J1 League, also known as the 2023 Meiji Yasuda J1 League for sponsorship reasons, was the 31st season of the J1 League, the top Japanese professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1992. The 2023 Sanfrecce Hiroshima season is their 85th season in existence and their 15th consecutive season in the J1 League. In addition to the league, the club competed in the Emperor's Cup and J. League Cup. As the third-placed team on last season's J1 League, they would have been qualified to the 2023–24 AFC Champions League play-offs. However, on 6 May, they lost their continental participation spot as Urawa Red Diamonds won the 2022 AFC Champions League.
The 2023 Gamba Osaka season was the club's 43rd season in existence and the tenth consecutive season in the top flight of Japanese football. The club finished the 2023 J1 League in 16th place, one place lower than the previous season and again narrowly avoiding relegation. They also competed in the Emperor's Cup where they were knocked out in the second round by JFL club Kochi United and the J.League Cup where they reached the quarter-finals. No team conceded more league goals than Gamba and they finished with the second-worst goal difference, only marginally better than relegated Yokohama FC.
