Dan Evans won his maiden ATP title, defeating Félix Auger-Aliassime in the final, 6–2, 6–3. This was the seventh consecutive final loss of Auger-Aliassime's career.

Félix Auger-Aliassime is a Canadian professional tennis player. He is the second-youngest player ranked in the top 10 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), and has a career-high singles ranking of No. 9, which he achieved on 10 January 2022, and doubles ranking of No. 60, attained on 1 November 2021. He has one singles title and one doubles title on the ATP Tour.

Rafael Nadal defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final, 6–4, 6–7(6–8), 7–5 to win the singles title at the 2021 Barcelona Open. Nadal saved a championship point en route to his record-extending 12th Barcelona Open title and 61st ATP Tour singles title on clay. It became the second tournament at which Nadal had earned 12 or more victories, after the French Open. At three hours and 38 minutes, the final match was also the longest best-of-three-set tour-level final ever recorded since the Association of Tennis Professionals began tracking statistics in 1991. Tsitsipas, who had also lost to Nadal in his first career ATP singles final at this tournament in 2018, was in contention to win his first ATP 500 tournament title on his seventh attempt.
Marin Čilić defeated Félix Auger-Aliassime in the final, 7–6(7–2), 6–3, to win the singles tennis title at the 2021 Stuttgart Open. It was Čilić's 19th career ATP Tour singles title, his first in three years, and he did not drop a set en route to the victory. The No. 47-ranked 32-year-old Čilić also became the lowest-ranked winner since Juan Carlos Ferrero in 2011 and the third-oldest champion in tournament history. 2019 finalist Auger-Aliassime was contesting for his first career singles title in his eighth final.
Nick Kyrgios was the reigning champion from when the tournament was last held in 2019, but lost in the first round to Mackenzie McDonald.

Alexander Zverev defeated Andrey Rublev in the final, 6–2, 6–3 to win the men's singles title at the 2021 Cincinnati Masters. It was his fifth ATP Tour Masters 1000 title and 17th career singles title on the ATP Tour.
Daniil Medvedev defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2021 US Open. It was his first major title and he only lost one set en route, against Botic van de Zandschulp in the quarterfinals. Medvedev became the third Russian man, after Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin, to win a major singles title and the first to do so since Safin at the 2005 Australian Open. This was Djokovic's record sixth runner-up finish at the event.

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Pablo Carreño Busta in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Barcelona Open. Alcaraz saved two match points in his semifinal match against Alex de Minaur. With the win, Alcaraz entered the top 10 in rankings for the first time in his career, becoming the youngest man to do so since Rafael Nadal in 2005.
