The XX National Sports Week (Indonesian : Pekan Olahraga Nasional XX, abbreviated as PON XX), also called PON XX Papua or PON Papua 2021, was the twentieth edition of the Indonesian National Sports Week, hosted by Papua. The event took place from 2 October to 15 October 2021. Lukas Enembe Stadium was the main venue for this edition, both the opening and closing ceremonies. This event was originally going to be held in 2020, but was postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic. [1] This edition was the first PON held in the province, [2] as well as in the Western New Guinea region and Eastern Indonesian Time areas.
Papua successfully defeated Bali and Aceh to host PON XX / 2020. Gaining the most votes in the voting for the prospective host of the National Sports Week (PON) XX in 2020 by winning 66 votes at the Annual Member Meeting of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI). [3]
There are one city and three regencies that will host the 2021 PON: Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke Regency, and Mimika Regency. [4]
The 2020 edition featured more sports than the previous edition. Based on KONI Decree No. 100 of 2019, a total of 56 sports were competed in the games. [5] Previously, the central KONI determined a number of 47 sports to be competed, [6] but returned later to 56 according to the hosts ability. [7] Ten sports that were removed were cycling, bridge, dance, gateball, golf, petanque, water skiing, soft tennis, table tennis and woodball. [8] Meanwhile, electronic sports are also competed as an exhibition sport.

The 1987 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 14th Southeast Asian Games, was a multi-sport event held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 9 to 20 September 1987 with 30 sports featured in the games.
Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium, also known as Jakabaring Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium located in Jakabaring Sport City complex in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Holding 23,000 spectators., the stadium is currently used mostly for football matches. The construction began in 2001 and finished in 2004 to host the 2004 Indonesia National Games. The stadium was initially named as Jakabaring stadium after the location of the stadium in southern outskirt of Palembang. However, later the stadium was renamed "Gelora Sriwijaya", to honor and celebrate the 7th—13th century Indonesian empire of Srivijaya. The Third Place Playoff of the 2007 AFC Asian Cup was held in this stadium. The football club Sriwijaya is based at the stadium.
The Sukma Games is a biennial national multi-sport event involving young athletes from Malaysia's 13 states and 3 Federal Territories. The games are regulated by the National Sports Council of Malaysia, the state sports council of the respective member states, the Olympic Council of Malaysia and the National Sports association of the games respective sporting event. The logo was designed by Anuar bin Dan in 1986.

Jayapura Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in Papua Province of Indonesia. It is situated to the west of but does not include the city of Jayapura. Previously covering most of the north-east portion of Papua province, it was reduced substantially in extent from 12 November 2002, when the eastern districts were split off to form a new Keerom Regency and the western districts were split off to form a new Sarmi Regency. It now covers an area of 17,516.6 km2, and had a population of 111,943 at the 2010 Census and 166,171 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 171,331. The administrative centre is the town of Sentani, with 73,927 inhabitants in mid 2022.
2008 Pekan Olahraga National or the Indonesia National Games XVII were a major multi-sport event in Indonesia which took place in Samarinda, East Kalimantan from 5–17 July 2008. A total of 7,946 athletes participated in the biggest-ever Pekan Olahraga Nasional and also the first on the island of Borneo. These games make Samarinda the second city to host Pekan Olahraga Nasional outside of the island of Java and Sumatra, after Makassar hosted the 1957 Pekan Olahraga Nasional.
2012 Pekan Olahraga Nasional or 2012 National Sports Week was a multi-sport event in Indonesia which was held in Riau from 9–20 September 2012. The previous edition was held in East Kalimantan. Thousands of athletes, officials, and journalists all across of Indonesian provinces participated to the game.
2016 Pekan Olahraga Nasional is the nineteenth edition of Pekan Olahraga Nasional. It was held in Bandung, West Java in 2016. It was the first time for Indonesia's third largest city of Bandung to host the games in more than forty years. Bandung hosted the fifth edition of Pekan Olahraga Nasional in 1961.
2004 Pekan Olahraga Nasional or the Pekan Olahraga Nasional XVI were a major multi-sport event in Indonesia which took place in Palembang, South Sumatra, from 2 September to 14 September 2004. A total of 607 events in 41 sports were competed among more than 5,500 athletes from 30 provinces, with the newly created province of Riau Islands only as observer and did not send any athletes. The games also staged 8 paralympic sports.

Lukas Enembe was an Indonesian politician from West Papua, who served as the 13th Governor of Papua Province from April 2013 to January 2023. He had previously served as Regent of Puncak Jaya Regency between 2007 and 2012, and Vice Regent of the same regency from 2001 until 2006.

Rahmat Erwin Abdullah is an Indonesian weightlifter. He is a two-time gold medalist in the men's 73 kg event at the World Weightlifting Championships. He won a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He is a weightlifter competing in the 73 kg class since 2018 World Weightlifting Championships in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. He made his international debut at the 2017 Youth World Weightlifting Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand in the 69 kg class.

Originally, PSTI officially registered under the title ‘Persatuan Sepak Raga Seluruh Indonesia’ (PERSERAS), however, after the inception of the Asian Sepaktakraw Federation in 1982, which the PERSERAS was considered one of the founding members, the organization was renamed to ‘Persatuan Sepak Takraw Seluruh Indonesia’ (PERSETASI) and lastly, as known today, ‘Persatuan Sepak Takraw Indonesia’ (PSTI).
