The 2021 World Bridge Team Championships (45th) was a contract bridge event being held in Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy, from 27 March to 9 April 2022, delayed from its original schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [1]
During the event, the 45th Bermuda Bowl, the 23rd Venice Cup, the 11th d'Orsi Trophy and the 2nd Wuhan Cup were contested. The NBO Trophy was cancelled after Round 6 because too many teams withdrew, compromising the technical integrity of the tournament. [2]
Teams representing France and Poland were the most successful medalists, each capturing one gold and one bronze. The only other nation to capture more than one medal was the United States, with one silver and one bronze.

The FIFA World Cup, often simply called the World Cup, is an international association football competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport's global governing body. The championship has been awarded every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War. The current champion is France, which won its second title at the 2018 tournament in Russia.

Entries formally represent WBF zones as well as nations, so it is also known as the World Zonal Open Team Championship. It is the oldest event that confers the title of world champion in bridge, and was first contested in 1950. The Bermuda Bowl trophy is awarded to the winning team, and is named for the site of the inaugural tournament, the Atlantic archipelago of Bermuda.
The Venice Cup is a biennial world championship contract bridge tournament for national teams of Women. It is contested every odd-number year under the auspices of the World Bridge Federation (WBF), alongside the Bermuda Bowl (Open) and d'Orsi Bowl (Seniors). Entries formally represent WBF Zones as well as nations so it is also known as the "World Zonal Women Team Championship", one of three "World Zonal Team Championships". It was first contested in 1974, as one long match between two teams, and has been concurrent with the Bermuda Bowl from 1985.
The World Bridge Federation (WBF) is the international governing body of contract bridge. The WBF is responsible for world championship competitions, most of which are conducted at a few multi-event meets on a four-year cycle. The most prestigious championships are those for national teams in Open, Women, and Seniors categories: the Bermuda Bowl, Venice Cup, and Senior Bowl, and the quadrennial World Team Olympiads, incorporated in the World Mind Sports Games beginning 2008.

The Rugby Africa Cup is a two-year men's rugby union tournament involving the top 16 African nations based on their World Rugby rankings, it is organised by Rugby Africa. Entries formally represent WBF Zones as well as nations so it is also known as the "World Zonal Senior Team Championship", one of three "World Zonal Team Championships". It became an official world championship event in 2001 following a successful exhibition in 2000.

The European Bridge League is a confederation of National Bridge Federations (NBFs) that organize the card game of contract bridge in European nations. In turn the EBL organizes bridge competition at the European level. Matteo Guarise is an Italian pairs figure skater and roller skater. Guarise is the 2008 World champion in pairs roller skating with Sara Venerucci. With his figure skating partner Nicole Della Monica, he is a seven-time Italian national champion (2016–22). The pair have represented Italy at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Matteo Rizzo is an Italian figure skater. He is the 2019 European bronze medalist, 2018 NHK Trophy bronze medalist, 2019 Winter Universiade champion, and 2018 Italian national champion. He has won several ISU Challenger Series medals, including gold at the 2017 CS Warsaw Cup. He is also the 2018 World Junior bronze medalist and 2017 JGP Italy champion. Rizzo represented Italy at the 2018 Winter Olympics and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Filippo Ambrosini is an Italian pair skater. With Rebecca Ghilardi, he has won three ISU Challenger Series medals and placed in the top ten at two European Championships. They are four-time Italian national silver medalists, and represented Italy at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Misato Komatsubara is a Japanese ice dancer. She currently represents her home country, in partnership with her husband Tim Koleto, with whom she is the 2020 NHK Trophy champion and a four-time Japanese national champion. Together, they also earned a bronze medal from the team event at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Daniel Grassl is an Italian figure skater. He is the 2022 European silver medalist, the 2019 World Junior bronze medalist, and a four-time Italian national champion (2019–2022). He has won ten senior international medals, including gold at four ISU Challenger Series events.
