The Mastodons were members of the Horizon League and played their home games at Mastodon Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They were led by third-year head coach Doug Schreiber.

Previous season

In their first season in the Horizon League, the Mastodons finished the 2022 NCAA Division I baseball season 11–35 overall (8–28 conference) and seventh place in the conference standings, as the season was limited to only 40 games, and an increase of conference games from 30 to 36 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school's athletic program includes 16 varsity sports teams. Their mascot is a Mastodon named Don, and the school colors are black and gold. The Summit League Men's Basketball Player of the Year is an annual award given to the most outstanding men's basketball player in the Summit League. The award was first given following the 1982–83 season. Two players, Caleb Green of Oral Roberts and Mike Daum of South Dakota State, have each won the award three times. Five other players have won the award twice: Jon Collins of Eastern Illinois, Tony Bennett of Green Bay, Bryce Drew of Valparaiso, Keith Benson of Oakland, and Max Abmas of Oral Roberts.

The 2018 NCAA Division I Baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began in February 2018. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2018 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2018 College World Series. The 2022–23 Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons men's basketball team represents Purdue University Fort Wayne in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mastodons, led by ninth-year head coach Jon Coffman, played their home games at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 17–15, 9–11 in Horizon League play to finish in a tie for eighth place. As the No. 9 seed in the Horizon League tournament, they lost to Detroit Mercy in the first round.

The Purdue Boilermakers baseball team is a baseball team that represents Purdue University in the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Boilermakers are members of the Big Ten Conference and play their home games at Alexander Field in West Lafayette, Indiana. They are led by fourth-year head coach Greg Goff.
