The 2024 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament was the sixth edition of the AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the quadrennial international football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to determine which women's national teams from Asia qualify for the Olympic football tournament. [2]

Contents

The top two teams of the tournament qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics women's football tournament in France as AFC representatives.

Format

Of the 47 AFC member associations, a total of 31 AFC member national teams entered the qualifying stage. The format is as follows: [3]

The draw for the first round was held on 12 January 2023, 15:00 MYT, at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. [4] Five teams received a bye to the second round.

First round

The first round was played between 1–11 April 2023.

Tiebreakers

Teams are ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss), and if tied on points, the following tiebreaking criteria are applied, in the order given, to determine the rankings (Regulations article 13.2): [7]

  1. Goal difference in all group matches;
  2. Goals scored in all group matches;
  3. Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
  4. Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
  5. Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
  6. Disciplinary points (yellow card = −1 point, red card as a result of two yellow cards = −3 points, direct red card = −4 points, yellow card followed by direct red card = −5 points);
  7. Drawing of lots.

Second round

The draw for the second round of the qualifiers was held at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 18 May 2023. [10] [11] For the second round, the twelve teams were drawn into three groups of four. The teams were seeded according to the March 2023 FIFA World Rankings, with North Korea unranked due to inactivity.

Third round

The third round featured the three group winners (Australia, North Korea, Japan) and best group runners-up (Uzbekistan) from the second round. The third round winners, Australia and Japan, qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics as the two AFC representatives.

The 2019 AFC U-19 Women's Championship qualification is a women's under-19 football competition which decides the participating teams of the 2019 AFC U-19 Women's Championship.

The 2019 AFF Women's Championship was the 11th edition of the AFF Women's Championship, an international women's football tournament organised by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The tournament was hosted by Thailand from 15 to 27 August 2019.

The 2021 AFC Champions League group stage was played from 14 to 30 April 2021 for the West Region and from 22 June to 11 July 2021 for the East Region. A total of 40 teams competed in the group stage to decide the 16 places in the knockout stage of the 2021 AFC Champions League.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup</span> International football competition

The 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup was the 41st edition of the AFC U-20 Asian Cup, the biennial international youth football championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-20 national teams of Asia. This edition is the first to be played as an under-20 tournament, as the AFC proposed to switch the tournament from under-19 to under-20 starting from 2023. Moreover, the tournament was also rebranded from the "AFC U-19 Championship" to the "AFC U-20 Asian Cup". On 25 January 2021, the AFC announced that Uzbekistan would retain hosting rights for the 2023 edition after the cancellation of the 2020 AFC U-19 Championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualification was the qualification tournament for the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup.

The 2024 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup qualification was a women's under-17 football competition that determined the participating teams in the 2024 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup final tournament. Players born on or after 1 January 2007 are eligible to participate.

The 2024 AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup is the 11th edition of the AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup, the biennial international youth football championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the women's under-20 national teams of Asia.

The 2024 AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup qualification is a women's under-20 football competition that will determine the participating teams in the 2024 AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup final tournament. Players born on or after 1 January 2004 are eligible to participate.

The 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualification was an international men's under-23 football competition which decided the participating teams of the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup.

The 2023 edition of the AFC Women's Club Championship was the fourth edition of AFC's premier women's club football competition. Eight clubs from AFC member associations competed.
