    Unlike other regions, UEFA organises a separate qualification process to decide the seven qualifiers. [5]

    Format

    The qualifying competition consists of five stages: [6]

    In the preliminary round each group is played as a round-robin mini-tournament at the pre-selected hosts.

    In the main and the elite round, each team plays one home and one away match against each other team in its group.

    The Asian section of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification will act as qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup for national teams of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). AFC teams have been allocated eight direct qualifying slots and one inter-confederation play-off slot.
