Carlos Humberto Ruiz Gutiérrez, initially nicknamed El Pescadito but gradually known as just Pescado or "Fish", is a retired Guatemalan footballer. A product of CSD Municipal's youth academy, Ruiz has played for five MLS clubs, scoring 88 goals in 182 MLS regular-season matches and 16 goals in the post-season, which is the record for the most post-season goals in MLS history. In 2002, he was named the MLS's Most Valuable Player of the season.
Fernando Caetano Clavijo Cedrés was a Uruguayan-American soccer defender and former head coach of the New England Revolution and Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer. He played three seasons in the American Soccer League, two in the North American Soccer League and ten in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He earned 61 caps with the United States men's national soccer team and eight with the U.S. national futsal team. He later coached both indoor and outdoor teams as well as at the national team level with Nigeria and Haiti. He was a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and is a 2014 inductee into the Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame.
The National Football Federation of Guatemala, known as Fedefut Guate or FENAFUTG, is the governing body of football in Guatemala. It organizes the football league, Liga Nacional de Guatemala, Primera División de Ascenso, Segunda División de Ascenso, and the Guatemala national football team. It is based in the Zone 15 of Guatemala City.
Alessandro Rosa Vieira, known as Falcão, is a Brazilian retired professional futsal player. He is known for his flashy and potent dribbling skills and a powerful and accurate left foot. He is also the world's all-time leading goalscorer in men's international matches. He has named Best Player in the World four times and won the FIFA Futsal World Cup Golden Shoe in 2004 and the Golden Ball in 2004 and 2008.
The Portugal national futsal team represents Portugal in international futsal competitions such as the FIFA Futsal World Cup and the European Championships and is controlled by the Portuguese Football Federation.
The Spain national futsal team represents Spain in international futsal competitions and is controlled by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. It is one of the strongest teams in the World, seven times champions in the UEFA Futsal Championship, and the two times consecutive champions of the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
Freddy Alexander García Carrera is a Guatemalan professional footballer currently playing for Deportivo Heredia in the Guatemala's top division. He has played for several local clubs since 1997, and also in Major League Soccer for Columbus Crew, where he won the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The Brazil national futsal team represents Brazil during international futsal competitions. It is under the direction of the Brazilian Futsal Confederation or Confederação Brasileira de Futebol de Salão. The team is considered to be the strongest in the world earning a record three straight championships in the FIFA Futsal World Cup. Brazil also holds a record twelve championship wins in the South American Futsal Championship also known as the Copa América de Futsal and five wins in the Taça América de Futsal. As of November 2016, Brazil is ranked first in the Futsal World Rankings. Brazil has played in all FIFA Futsal World Cups and has finished in the top three places seven times.
The Thailand national futsal team represents Thailand in international futsal competitions and is controlled by the Football Association of Thailand.
The 2000 FIFA Futsal World Championship was the fourth FIFA Futsal World Championship, the quadrennial international futsal championship contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It was held between 18 November and 3 December 2000 in Guatemala. It was the first FIFA tournament held in the country.

In March 2015, the Futsal league, as well as the federation, formed their own body headed by Gerardo Paiz as head of Guatemalan Futsal. Paiz has provided Guatemala with many victories and titles in the last decade. Many believe that his leadership and isolation from the Federación Nacional de Fútbol, a group that most Guatemalans associate with corruption, has benefited futsal in the country.
The United States national futsal team represents the United States at international competitions. It is controlled by the United States Soccer Federation and affiliated with CONCACAF. The U.S. Futsal Federation was founded in 1981 and the first international futsal match played by the U.S. National Futsal Team was in May 1984 in Nanaimo, Canada where the United States won, 6–5. The first international futsal match in the United States was held in December, 1985, at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. The U.S. select team, defeated Australia, 9–5.

The Malaysia national futsal team represents Malaysia in international futsal competitions and is controlled by the Football Association of Malaysia. Malaysia once played in the FIFA Futsal World Cup in 1996.
The Vietnam national futsal team represents Vietnam in international futsal and is governed by Vietnam Football Federation.
The 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup was the seventh FIFA Futsal World Cup, the quadrennial international futsal championship contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It took place from 1 to 18 November 2012 in Thailand. An extra four teams were competing at this World Cup. This was the first FIFA men's tournament held in Southeast Asia since the Malaysia 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship, and was the first FIFA men's tournament held in the country, having hosted the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship.
The 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup was the eighth FIFA Futsal World Cup, the quadrennial international futsal championship contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament was held in Colombia from 10 September to 1 October 2016.

Vítor Manuel Simões Fernandes Bernardo, commonly known as Nelito, is a Portuguese futsal coach and former futsal player who played as a pivot. He is the head coach of the Lisbon Division of Honour club Novos Talentos. As a player Nelito was the 2000–01 Portuguese Futsal First Division top scorer while playing for Sporting Vila Verde and he won two Portuguese futsal leagues with Benfica. Nelito played for the Portugal national team in the 1999 Euros and the 2000 World Cup.
