On 22 January 2025, the 12533 Pushpak Express train was traveling from Lucknow to Mumbai. Rumors spread that a fire had broken out in the coach between Maheji and Pardad stations in Maharashtra. Residents rushed to the site and offered help. Images of the disaster site show mutilated body parts along the railway track. [1]
Eight ambulances were dispatched, which took the injured passengers to the Civil Hospital in Jalgaon. [8] The Central Circle Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) started an inquiry into the cause of the accident. [9]
Executive Director of the Railway Board denied that any spark or fire inside the coach caused passengers to pull the alarm. [1] The Indian Ministry of Railways announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹1.5 lakh (US$1,800) each to the kin of the deceased, ₹50,000 (US$590) for grievous wounds and ₹5,000 (US$59) for simple injuries.
