The 2025 Jalgaon train accident was a train accident in Pachora, Jalgaon district in Maharashtra, India on the Maheji Railway Station near the line between Pachora Junction-Jalgaon Junction on 22 January 2025. The incident occurred when panicked passengers jumped off the train after hearing rumour that the Pushpak Express on fire; they were subsequently hit by the Bengaluru Express coming from the opposite direction. Accident

On 22 January 2025, the 12533 Pushpak Express train was traveling from Lucknow to Mumbai. Rumors spread that a fire had broken out in the coach between Maheji and Pardad stations in Maharashtra. Some people pulled the emergency chain to stop the train at around 4:45 pm. Passengers jumped off the train to the adjoining tracks and were struck by the Bengaluru Express coming from the opposite direction. [5] [6] [7]

Residents rushed to the site and offered help. Images of the disaster site show mutilated body parts along the railway track. [1]

Eight ambulances were dispatched, which took the injured passengers to the Civil Hospital in Jalgaon. [8] The Central Circle Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) started an inquiry into the cause of the accident. [9]

Reactions

Executive Director of the Railway Board denied that any spark or fire inside the coach caused passengers to pull the alarm. [1] The Indian Ministry of Railways announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, Rs 50,000 for grievous wounds and Rs 5,000 for simple injuries. [10] [11]

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw sent their condolences to the families of the passengers who were killed and wished for a fast recovery of the injured people. [12]

The Nellore train fire occurred on 30 July 2012, when the Chennai-bound Tamil Nadu Express train caught fire at 4:22 am near Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India. At least 32 passengers died and 27 were injured. The fire gutted the S-11 sleeper coach in 20 minutes. A railway emergency crew prevented the fire from spreading to the other coaches.

The Indian Government is undertaking several initiatives to upgrade its aging railway infrastructure and enhance its quality of service. The Railway Ministry has announced plans to invest 5,400,000 crore to upgrade the railways by 2030. Upgrades include 100% electrification of railways, upgrading existing lines with more facilities and higher speeds, expansion of new lines, upgrading railway stations, introducing and eventually developing a large high-speed train network interconnecting major cities in different parts of India and development of various dedicated freight corridors to cut down cargo costs within the country.

He was a two-term Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Pachora constituency in Jalgaon district, Maharashtra. R. O. Patil was elected to the Pachora assembly constituency for two successive terms on a Shiv Sena ticket. He made a lasting impact on the political history of the constituency by being elected for two consecutive terms and significantly improved the constituency through multiple development works.

On 2 June 2023, three trains collided in Balasore district in the east Indian state of Odisha. The accident occurred around 19:00 IST when Coromandel Express, a passenger train, collided with a stationary goods train near Bahanaga Bazar railway station on the Howrah–Chennai main line. Due to the high speed of the passenger train and the heavy tonnage of the goods train, the impact resulted in 21 coaches of the Coromandel Express derailing and three of those collided with the oncoming SMVT Bengaluru–Howrah Superfast Express on the adjacent track.

On 1 July 2023, a private bus named Vidarbha Travels travelling on Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Buldhana district in India caught fire. 25 people died, and eight others were injured, in the accident.

Amol Chimanrao Patil is an Indian politician. He is a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Erandol Assembly constituency in Jalgaon District. He won the 2024 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election, representing the Shiv Sena.
