The 2025 Norwegian First Division is a scheduled Norwegian second-tier women's football league season. The season is set to run from 22 March 2025 to 18 October 2025, not including play-off matches. [1]

In the 2024 Norwegian First Division, Hønefoss and Bodø/Glimt were promoted to the 2025 Toppserien, while Øvrevoll Hosle were relegated to the 2025 Norwegian Second Division.

Åsane and Arna-Bjørnar were relegated from the 2024 Toppserien, while Start, HamKam and Molde were promoted from the 2024 Norwegian Second Division, expanding the First Division to 12 teams.

TIL 2020 and Avaldsnes both completed mergers with Eliteserien clubs ahead of the season, becoming the women's teams of Tromsø and Haugesund respectively. [2] [3]

Play-offs

Promotion play-offs

The teams from scond to fifth place will take part in the promotion play-offs; these are single leg knockout matches. In the first round, the fourth-placed team will play at home against the fifth-placed team. The winner of the first round will meet the third-placed team on away ground in the second round. The winner of the second round will meet the second-placed team on away ground. The winner of the third round will face the 9th-placed team in the Toppserien over two legs in the Eliteserien play-offs for a spot in the top-flight next season. [4]

Relegation play-offs

The 10th-placed team will take part in a two-legged play-off against the winners of the Second Division play-offs, to decide who will play in the First Division next season.

The final was contested by Hødd and Tromsø and took place on 25 November 2012 at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, in front of a crowd of 24,217. This was Tromsø's third final, and they had won the two previous finals in 1986 and 1996, while the Norwegian First Division side Hødd played their first final ever.

The 2017 Eliteserien was the 73rd completed season of top-tier football in Norway. The season began on 1 April 2017 and ended on 26 November 2017, not including play-off matches. This was first season of Eliteserien as rebranding from Tippeligaen. Rosenborg were the defending champions, while Kristiansund and Sandefjord entered as the promoted teams from the 2016 1. divisjon.

The 2023 Eliteserien was the 79th season of top-tier football in Norway. This was the seventh season of Eliteserien after rebranding from Tippeligaen. Bodø/Glimt were crowned the champions at the end of the season, winning their 3rd Norwegian league title.

The 2023 Toppserien was the 40th season of the highest women's football league in Norway. The season started on 25 March 2023 and ended on 12 November 2023. The season did not include championship and relegation playoffs rounds which were scrapped after only one season. Instead, the league schedule was increased by nine matches per team with each team playing each other three times instead of twice.
