ASA Charge was an American soccer club based in Gambrills, Maryland that has played in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the fourth tier of the American soccer pyramid, from 2014 to 2016 in the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the South Region. The club is affiliated with the women's squad ASA Chesapeake Charge of Women's Premier Soccer League Elite (WPSL Elite).

The club plays its home games out of Arundel High School stadium and its colors are blue, white and red.

History

The ASA Charge announced that they would join the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), considered the fourth tier of the American soccer pyramid and roughly equal to the USL Premier Development League (PDL), on December 21, 2013. The Charge would be owned and operated by the Arundel Soccer Association (ASA), the fourth largest soccer club in Maryland. The club would begin play for the 2014 NPSL season in the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the South Region, playing home games out of Arundel High School stadium in Gambrills, Maryland. The club would be led by local former player and manager of Charm City FC, General Manager Pat Crawford, with another local former player, Tim Wittman as head coach. [1] As for the 2017 season, ASA Charge chose to not participate in the NPSL.[ citation needed ]

The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is an American soccer league commonly recognized as being a fourth-tier league, although it has been given no official designation by U.S. Soccer. The NPSL is a semi-professional league, comprising some teams that have paid players and some that are entirely amateur. Although the league is officially affiliated to the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) and qualifies for the U.S. Open Cup through USASA channels, it is generally considered to be the level of competition behind Major League Soccer (MLS), the USL Championship, National Independent Soccer Association and USL League One, and equal with USL League Two. It was founded in 2002 as the Raleigh Elite, and the current affiliate of North Carolina FC, a third division club in the United Soccer League. The team plays in USL League Two, and previously in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). The team was known as the Cary Clarets in 2008 and 2009; and went dormant for a year in 2010. As a member of the USASA League, the then-Carolina RailHawks U23's took the Men's Region III Championship in 2011, 2012, and 2013 and won the U-23's National Championship in 2011 and 2013. The team's colors are navy blue, gold, and cardinal red.

Appalachian FC Semi-Professional Soccer team in Boone, North Carolina, U.S.

Appalachian Football Club is a National Premier Soccer League expansion team that began play in March 2021. As a result of the Appalachian State Mountaineers men's soccer team being cut in May of 2020 due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic, head coach Jason O'Keefe and a soccer executive Michael Hitchcock joined up with a group of local business owners to create the team. They are a member of the Southeast Conference along with Georgia Revolution FC, Georgia Storm, LSA Athletico Lanier, Metro Louisville FC, and North Alabama SC.
