Abbotswood is a new 52-hectare building development planned to have 800 homes. It is located just to the north east of the town of Romsey in the Test Valley local government district. [1]
The name 'Abbotswood' is derived from 'the abbess [of Romsey]’s wood'; it was recorded as Abbys wode in 1513 and Abbes wood in 1565. [2]
Outline permission for a new development comprising 800 homes on a site at Abbotswood was granted in 2010. Construction began in 2011 and by the end of 2017, 753 homes were occupied. [3]
On 1 August 2014, planning permission was sought for a local centre consisting of a shop, pub, doctors/dentists surgery, pharmacy, community centre, and a day nursery. The planning application reference is 14/01836/RESS. [4]
Hornchurch is a suburban town in East London in the London Borough of Havering. It is located 15.2 miles (24.5 km) east-northeast of Charing Cross. It comprises a number of shopping streets and a large residential area. It historically formed a large ancient parish in the county of Essex that became the manor and liberty of Havering. Romsey is a town in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. The town is situated 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Southampton, 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Winchester and 17 miles (27 km) southeast of Salisbury. It sits on the outskirts of the New Forest, just over 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of its eastern edge. The population of Romsey was 14,768 at the 2011 census.

Den Brook Wind Farm is a windfarm in Devon, England. The windfarm is located 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) south-east of North Tawton and 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) south-west of Bow, and comprises nine 2 MW wind turbines, each 120 metres (390 ft) high. Romsey Extra was a civil parish in the Borough of Test Valley and the English county of Hampshire. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 3,276, although due to the ongoing 800 home Abbotswood development that begun after the census was taken, it was likely to have risen significantly by the next Census and by 50% between 2012 and 2018. In 2014 there was a proposal for a new 1300 home development at Whitenap.

The 2019 Test Valley Borough Council election took place on 2 May 2019 to elect members of Test Valley Borough Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections. The whole council was up for election on new boundaries, with the number of seats reduced from 48 across 24 wards to 43 across 20.
