Alan Ling Sie Kiong (Chinese :林思健; pinyin :Lín Sījiàn; Jyutping :Lam4 Si1 Gin6; Pe̍h-ōe-jī :Lîm Su-kiān;born 19 February 1983) is a Malaysian politician and lawyer [1] who served as Senator from August 2018 to August 2021 and Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Piasau from April 2011 to May 2016. He is the State Secretary of Sarawak of both the Democratic Action Party (DAP) as well as its coalition,the state opposition Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. [2]
He spent his childhood in Nanga Medamit,Limbang,Sarawak where his parents started their first business venture by operating a small grocery shops next to a river in the rural area. He is a Christian.[ citation needed ]
Ling received his primary education in SRB Chung Hua Limbang,North School Miri and secondary school in SMK St. Joseph Miri.
Ling graduated from the University of Sheffield with a Bachelor of Laws honours degree. During his stay in United Kingdom,he was the President of Malaysian Law Students Union in the United Kingdom and Eire (KPUM) for the term 2004/2005. [3] He also held the post of President for Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) Club of United Kingdom for the term 2005/2006.
Ling is an Advocate &Solicitor of the High Court in Malaya and High Court in Sabah and Sarawak. [4] He became the managing partner of an established law firm Suhaili &Ling Advocates in Miri at the age of 27. [5] He has particular interest in criminal law and was a pupil to the late Karpal Singh. He is also the partner of Rohamat &Ling which is situated in Petaling Jaya and Johor Bahru in West Malaysia. He is a well-known lawyer in Miri and has been appointed honourable/legal advisors to several associations in Miri.
Besides legal qualification,he is a licensed auctioneer,company secretary and also actively involved in the business field since his university time. At the age of 25 in 2008,he successfully obtained license from Bank Negara Malaysia to operate remittance business in partnership with Western Union,it is one of the pioneers non-bank remittance operators in Malaysia. In 2015,he sold the company operation to another remittance operator.
Ling joined DAP in 2011 and had been elected Honourable Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly for Piasau. [6] He won the seat at the age of 28 by upsetting the then Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister cum President of Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) of Barisan Nasional (BN),Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam in the 2011 state election. He defeated Chan by a 1,590-vote majority. [7] He has a community centre within his constituency. He seek for re-election in 2016 state election but lost to BN SUPP candidate. His focus is now on his legal practice,business interest and party works.
Currently he is also one of the board members to Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). Ling was appointed and sworn in as Malaysian Senator in Dewan Negara on 27 August 2018. [2]
In June 2019,Ling was appointed as president of Miri Volleyball Association (MVA). [1]
The ninth Sarawak state election was held on Saturday,20 May 2006 with nomination day on Tuesday,9 May 2006. The election functioned to elect 71 representatives to the Sarawak State Assembly. The eighth state assembly was dissolved by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak,Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng by the advice of Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud,on 24 April 2006.
Chong Chieng Jen,is a Malaysian politician and lawyer who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stampin since May 2018 and Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Padungan since December 2021. He served as the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020,State Leader of the Opposition of Sarawak from June 2013 to November 2020,MP for Bandar Kuching from March 2004 to May 2018 and MLA for Kota Sentosa from May 2006 to December 2021. He is a member,National Vice-Chairman,State Chairman of Sarawak,Branch Chairman of Kuching and State Youth Advisor of Sarawak as well as Bandar Kuching of the Democratic Action Party (DAP),a component party of the PH coalition.
The Sarawak National Party known by its acronym as "SNAP",is now a defunct political party in Malaysia. It was a member party of the Alliance Party from 1963 to 1966 and a member of Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition from 1976 until its expulsion in 2004. It contested the General Election in 2004 as well as the Sarawak state elections of 2006 and 2011 as an opposition party.

The Sibu by-election,2010 was a by-election for the seat of Sibu in the Parliament of Malaysia. The Sarawak-based seat fell vacant after the death of its incumbent member,Robert Lau Hoi Chew,from liver cancer on 9 April 2010. The seat was defended for the Barisan Nasional coalition government by Robert Lau Hui Yew of the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP),while Sarawak State Assemblyman Wong Ho Leng contested the poll for the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in the Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition. Wong won the election by 398 votes,wresting the seat from the Barisan Nasional.
Datuk Tiong Thai King is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Dudong from May 2016 to December 2021 and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Lanang from April 1995 to May 2013. He was a member of the federal and state opposition Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) before he quits politics in 2021. Previously he was a member of the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP),a component party of the federal and state ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition and a former component party of the federal ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
The sixth Sarawak state election was held between Friday,27 September and Saturday,28 September 1991. This election elected 56 state representatives into the Sarawak State Assembly. This election saw 72.8% of the eligible voters to cast their votes.

Radio Free Sarawak is a pirate radio station established by environmental and anti-corruption activist Clare Rewcastle Brown and helmed by former Cats FM presenter Peter John Jaban,Christina Suntai who graduated from Florida Technical College in computer science and computer programming,and Michael Ngau. First broadcast on 16 November 2010,the station can be received by shortwave on 15420 kHz. It also produced podcasts for its programmes daily from 1100–1300 UTC or 7:00–9:00 pm at Sarawak local time (UTC+8). The station received wide publicity in Malaysia after the brief disappearance of Jaban. However it was later discovered that he had gone into hiding voluntarily. On 15 November 2014,the radio suspended its shortwave transmission services and claimed the Sarawak state government has jammed its service.
Baru Bian is a Malaysian politician and lawyer who has served as Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Ba'kelalan since April 2011. He served as the Minister of Works in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Selangau from May 2018 to November 2022. He is a member of the Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and was a member of People's Justice Party (PKR),a component party of the PH and formerly Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalitions. He also served as the State Chairman of PKR of Sarawak from December 2009 to his resignation from the party in February 2020. He became the first ever federal minister of the Lun Bawang ethnicity in the Malaysian history.

The Alliance of Hope is a Malaysian political coalition consisting of centre-left political parties which was formed in 2015 to succeed the Pakatan Rakyat coalition. It has been part of a "Unity Government" since November 2022 together with other political coalitions and parties as a result of the 2022 Malaysian general election,and previously for 22 months after it had won the 2018 Malaysian general election until February 2020 when it lost power as a result of the 2020 Malaysian political crisis at the federal level. The coalition deposed the Barisan Nasional coalition government during the 2018 election,ending its 60-year-long reign since independence.

Violet Yong Wui Wui is a Malaysian lawyer and politician from the Democratic Action Party (DAP),a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition. She has served as Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Pending since May 2006. She is also one of the only two Sarawak PH and DAP MLAs along with Chong Chieng Jen.
Michael Teo Yu Keng is a Malaysian politician and gynaecologist who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Miri from May 2013 to November 2022. He is a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR),a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and formerly Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalitions. He also served as the Vice President of PKR from June 2020 to July 2022. He is also a practicing gynaecologist at Teo's Clinic and Maternity Centre.

He has served as State Deputy Minister of Tourism,Creative Industry and Performing Arts of Sarawak in charge of Tourism in the GPS administration under Chief Minister Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Abang Openg and Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah since January 2022 and Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Piasau since May 2016. He served as State Deputy Minister of Tourism,Arts and Culture of Sarawak from August 2019 to December 2021. He has also served as Secretary-General of SUPP since September 2014.
Wilson Ugak Kumbong is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Deputy Minister of Digital in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Minister Gobind Singh Deo since December 2023,Chairman of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) since April 2020 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Hulu Rajang since May 2013. He served as the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Sabah and Sarawak Affairs and Special Duties in the PH administration under Prime Minister Anwar and Minister Armizan Mohd Ali from December 2022 to December 2023. He is a member and Vice President of the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS),a component party of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition and formerly Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He is also cousin of Alexander Nanta Linggi,the Minister of Works and MP for Kapit.
