Amblypomacentrus is a small genus of fish in the family Pomacentridae. As of the year 2000, there are 3 species. [2]
Pomacentridae is a family of ray-finned fish, comprising the damselfishes and clownfishes. This family were formerly placed in the order Perciformes but are now regarded as being incertae sedis in the subseries Ovalentaria in the clade Percomorpha. They are primarily marine, while a few species inhabit freshwater and brackish environments. They are noted for their hardy constitutions and territoriality. Many are brightly colored, so they are popular in aquaria.
Parma is a genus of damselfish in the family Pomacentridae.
Abudefduf also known as the sergeant-majors is a genus of fish in the family Pomacentridae. This species was discovered by Ali Manikfan.
Altrichthys is a small genus of damselfish in the family Pomacentridae, native to the central Indo-Pacific.
Amblyglyphidodon is a genus of fish in the family Pomacentridae. These damselfish swim singly, in pairs, or in small groups. They are often found among corals.
The lyretail damselfishes are fishes in the genus Neopomacentrus in the family Pomacentridae. They are all marine coastal fishes but N. taeniurus and N. aquadulcis are known to occur in brackish waters, and even in pure fresh water.
Plectroglyphidodon is a genus of fish in the family Pomacentridae.
Pomachromis is a genus of fish in the family Pomacentridae.
Chrysiptera talboti, known commonly as Talbot's damselfish and Talbot's demoiselle, is a species of damselfish. It is a marine fish from the eastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific. The specific name honours the fisheries scientist Frank H. Talbot the director of the Australian Museum in Sydney, the collector of the type.
Chromis limbaughi is a Chromis from the Eastern Central Pacific. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 10 cm in length. The specific name honours the zoologist and diver Conrad Limbaugh (1925-1960) who collected some specimens and was the first to photograph this species.
Amblypomacentrus breviceps, known commonly as the black-banded demoiselle , is a species of marine fish in the family Pomacentridae, the damselfishes and the clownfishes.
Chromis degruyi is a species of fish in the family Pomacentridae. It was first found at depths greater than 60 metres (200 ft) in a coral reef habitat in the western Pacific, specifically the Caroline Islands. It differs from its cogenerates on a colour and morphological basis.
Azurina hirundo, the swallow damsel is a species of ray-finned fish from the damselfish family Pomacentridae. It occurs on reefs in the eastern Pacific Ocean around Baja California, the Guadalupe Island and the Revillagigedo Islands.
Amblypomacentrus clarus, the Bangaii damselfish is a species of ray-finned fish, a damselfish from the family Pomacentridae'. It is found in south-east Asia with records from Indonesia, the Philippines and Cambodia. It is similar to Amblypomacentrus breviceps, with which it is sympatric but it is separated by the patten of the body with the three dark bars being more contarsed than in A. breviceps, and it does not have the rows of light blue spots on its flanks and a diffuse yellow colouration on the lower body also frequently shown by A. breviceps.
Amblypomacentrus vietnamicus is a species of ray-finned fish from the family Pomacentridae, the damselfishes and clownfishes. It was described in 2004 from the South China Sea off Vietnam, It differs from its congeners in lacking the dark bars seen in Amblypomacentrus breviceps and A. clarus.
The Coquito sergeant, also knowns as the Coquito damsel, is a species of ray-finned fish, it is the only species in the monotypic genus Nexilosus which is classified in the family, Pomacentridae, the clownfishes and damselfishes. It is found on rocky coasts in the eastern Pacific Ocean off Peru and northern Chile, as well as the Galapagos Islands.
Jordan's damsel is a species of ray-finned fish from the family Pomacentridae, the damselfishes and clownfishes, it is the only species in the monotypic genus Teixeirichthys. It has a disjunct distribution in the Indian and western pacific Oceans having been recorded from the Red Sea, Mozambique Channel, Seychelles, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and Japan. It is found in beds of sea grass and over sandy substrates. Jordan's damsel is frequently observed to form mid-water aggregations of as many as several hundreds of individuals. It occurs at depths of 10–20 metres (33–66 ft). It has been recorded using small rocky outcrops and areas of debris to nest in in the Gulf of Aqaba. The generic name honours Gabriel M. Teixeira (1897-1973), who was the Governor-General of Mozambique and who assisted J.L.B. Smith's studies of the fish fauna of that territory. The specific name and common name both honour the American ichthyologist David Starr Jordan (1851-1931) who gave a collection of specimens from Swatow to Rutter, among which was the type of this species.
