Bos genus of wild and domestic cattle

Bos is the genus of wild and domestic cattle. Bos can be divided into four subgenera: Bos, Bibos, Novibos, and Poephagus, but including these last three divisions within the genus Bos without including Bison in the genus is believed to be paraphyletic by many workers on the classification of the genus since the 1980s. The genus has five extant species. However, this may rise to eight if the domesticated varieties are counted as separate species, and ten if the closely related genus Bison is also included. Most but not all modern breeds of domesticated cattle are believed to have originated from the extinct aurochs. Many ancient breeds are thought to have originated from other species. Zebus and Taurine cows are thought to descend from ancient Indian and Middle Eastern aurochs, respectively.

Subgenus Taxonomic rank

In biology, a subgenus is a taxonomic rank directly below genus.

Sorbus Genus of flowering plants in the rose family Rosaceae

Sorbus is a genus of about 100–200 species of trees and shrubs in the rose family, Rosaceae. Species of Sorbus (s.l.) are commonly known as whitebeam, rowan, service tree, and mountain-ash. The exact number of species is disputed depending on the circumscription of the genus, and also due to the number of apomictic microspecies, which some treat as distinct species, but others group in a smaller number of variable species. Recent treatments treat Sorbus in a narrower sense to include only the pinnate leaved species of subgenus Sorbus, raising several of the other subgenera to generic rank.

Morpho Genus of brush-footed butterflies

The morpho butterflies comprise many species of Neotropical butterfly under the genus Morpho. This genus includes more than 29 accepted species and 147 accepted subspecies, found mostly in South America, Mexico, and Central America. Morpho wingspans range from 7.5 cm (3.0 in) for M. rhodopteron to 20 cm (7.9 in) for M. hecuba, the imposing sunset morpho. The name morpho, meaning "changed" or "modified", is also an epithet.

Ribes Genus of flowering plants in the order Saxifragales

Ribes is a genus of about 200 known species of flowering plants native throughout the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. The various species are known as currants or gooseberries, and some are cultivated for their edible fruit or as ornamental plants. Ribes is the only genus in the family Grossulariaceae.

Utetheisa Genus of moths

Utetheisa is a genus of tiger moths in the family Erebidae. The genus was first described by Jacob Hübner in 1819.

Heliothis Genus of moths

Heliothis is a genus of moths in the family Noctuidae. It was first described by Ferdinand Ochsenheimer in 1816. Some of the species have larvae which are agricultural pests on crop species such as tobacco, cotton, soybean and pigeon pea. Some species originally in this genus have been moved to other genera, see Chloridea and Helicoverpa.

Polyura

Polyura is a subgenus of butterflies also referred to as Nawab butterflies and belonging to the brush-footed butterfly subfamily Charaxinae, or leafwing butterflies. Like the large and conspicuous forest queens, they belong to the genus Charaxes, unique genus of the tribe Charaxini.

Allotinus Butterfly genus in family Lycaenidae

Allotinus is a genus of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae. The genus was erected by Cajetan Felder and Rudolf Felder in 1865. The members (species) of this genus are found in the Indomalayan realm.

Ephysteris is a genus of the twirler moth family (Gelechiidae). Among these, it is assigned to tribe Gnorimoschemini of the subfamily Gelechiinae. Even though it is a rather diverse and widespread group, most of these small and inconspicuous moths were overlooked by scientists until the early 20th century. Almost 90 species are known today, but new ones are still being discovered.

Kiwaia Genus of moths

Kiwaia is a genus of moths in the family Gelechiidae. Two subgenera are currently recognised, (i) the nominotypical subgenus with 25 species from New Zealand, and (ii) subgenus Empista with 4 species from the Palaearctic Region.

Sancterila

Sancterila is a genus of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae.

Anicla Genus of moths

Anicla is a genus of moths of the family Noctuidae.

Cerastis Genus of moths

Cerastis is a genus of moths of the family Noctuidae.

Euclidia Genus of moths

Euclidia is a genus of moths in the family Erebidae.

Depressaria Genus of moths

Depressaria is a moth genus of the superfamily Gelechioidea. It is the type genus of subfamily Depressariinae, which is often – particularly in older treatments – considered a distinct family Depressariidae or included in the Elachistidae, but actually seems to belong in the Oecophoridae.

Andraca Genus of moths

Andraca is a genus of moths of the family Endromidae.

Mustilia Genus of moths

Mustilia is a genus of moths of the Endromidae family. The genus was previously placed in the subfamily Prismostictinae of the Bombycidae family.

Drepana (moth) Moth genus in family Drepanidae

Drepana is a genus of moths belonging to the subfamily Drepaninae. The genus was erected by Franz von Paula Schrank in 1802.

Epermenia Genus of moths

Epermenia is a genus of moths in the family Epermeniidae. The genus was first described by Jacob Hübner in 1825.
