Angela Stroud (born 1981) is an American educator, author, and Democratic politician from Ashland, Wisconsin. She is a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, and represents Wisconsin's 73rd Assembly district since January 2025.
Stroud was born in southern Texas, roughly ten miles from the Mexican city of Reynosa in 1981. During her youth, she and her family would cross the border into Mexico at various points and often encountered extreme poverty among the populace in both the United States and Mexico. [1]
She moved to Ashland in 2012 and began teaching at Northland College. [2] At Northland, Stroud serves as a professor of Sociology and Social Justice, where she teaches courses including Sociology of Gender and Sexuality, Undoing Racism, Sociology of Community, Human Rights and Social Justice, and Introduction to Sociology. [1]
Due to redistricting, the 73rd district's incumbent representative Angie Sapik announced she would not seek re-election in 2024, after which Stroud entered the race. [3] [4] She faced a primary against John Adams, a member of the Washburn City Board and candidate for the 74th district in 2022. [5] [6] During the campaign, Stroud ran on giving more public funding to Wisconsin public schools and supporting more environmental regulations. [7] In the primary election, she won the Democratic nomination with 80% of the primary vote. [8] Stroud went on to win the general election, receiving about 58% of the vote against Republican Frank Kostka, a former Department Commander for the Wisconsin American Legion and current member of the Wisconsin American Legion Board of Directors. Stroud lives in Gingles, Wisconsin, with her partner Cynthia, her stepson, and their rescue dog Mae. [2]

Ashland is a city in Ashland and Bayfield counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is the county seat of Ashland County. The city is a port on Lake Superior, near the head of Chequamegon Bay. The population was 7,908 at the 2020 census, all of whom resided in the Ashland County portion of the city. The unpopulated Bayfield County portion is in the city's southwest, bordered by the easternmost part of the Town of Eileen.

Sean Duffy, the incumbent representative, announced his resignation effective September 23, 2019, as his wife was about to give birth to a child with a heart condition. Governor Tony Evers chose January 27, 2020, as the date for the special election, with the primaries scheduled for December 30, 2019. However, the Department of Justice said that this schedule would be in violation of federal law, since it would provide insufficient time for overseas and military voters to receive ballots. Evers then rescheduled the primaries for February 18, 2020, and the general election for May 12, 2020.
