The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is an American LGBTQ advocacy group. It is the largest LGBTQ political lobbying organization within the United States. Based in Washington,D.C.,the organization focuses on protecting and expanding rights for LGBTQ individuals,including advocating for same-sex marriage,anti-discrimination and hate crimes legislation,and HIV/AIDS advocacy. The organization has a number of legislative initiatives as well as supporting resources for LGBTQ individuals.
John F. Tierney is an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts from 1997 to 2015. He is a Democrat who represented the state's 6th district,which includes the state's North Shore and Cape Ann. Born and raised in Salem,Massachusetts,Tierney graduated from Salem State College and Suffolk University Law School. He worked in private law and served on the Salem Chamber of Commerce from 1976 to 1997. Tierney first ran for the House of Representatives in 1994 against Republican incumbent Peter G. Torkildsen,losing by a small margin. He defeated Torkildsen in a rematch in 1996.

Dixon,then president of the Baltimore City Council,served out the remaining year of her term and won the mayoral election in November 2007. Dixon was the first African-American woman to serve as president of the City Council,Baltimore's first female mayor,and Baltimore's third black mayor.

On May 31,2014,in Waukesha,Wisconsin,United States,two 12-year-old girls,Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser,lured their friend Payton Leutner into a wooded area of a local park and stabbed her 19 times to appease the fictional character Slender Man. Weier and Geyser were both found not guilty by mental disease or defect and committed to mental health institutions. Weier received a sentence of 25 years to life and Geyser was sentenced to 40 years to life. After seven years in custody,Weier was granted early release and will be under supervision until age 37.

Acevero is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Because of transphobia,transgender people in the U.S. face increased levels of violence and intimidation. Cisgender people can also be affected by transphobia.
