Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao general elections were held in the ARMM for the regional governor, vice-governor posts and election of members of the ARMM Regional Legislative Assembly on August 8, 2005.
ARMM Regional Assembly, also known as ARMM Regional Legislative Assembly, was the devolved unicameral regional legislature of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). It was known as the "Little Congress" of the ARMM.

The Commission on Elections, usually abbreviated as COMELEC, is one of the three constitutional commissions of the Philippines. Its principal role is to enforce all laws and regulations relative to the conduct of elections in the Philippines.
Elections are administered by an independent Commission on Elections every three years starting 1992. Held every second Monday of May, the winners in the elections take office on the following June 30.
Maguindanao is a province in the Philippines. Since 2014 the provincial capital is Buluan but the legislative branch of the provincial government, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, convenes in the old provincial capitol in the town of Sultan Kudarat. It borders Lanao del Sur to the north, Cotabato to the east, Sultan Kudarat to the south, and the Illana Bay to the west.
The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao was an autonomous region of the Philippines, located in the Mindanao island group of the Philippines, that consisted of five predominantly Muslim provinces: Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. It was the only region that had its own government. The region's de facto seat of government was Cotabato City, although this self-governing city was outside its jurisdiction.

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao general elections are held for the first time in the newly expanded Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. In 2001, Republic Act No. 9054 was passed for the expansion of the ARMM to include the areas which initially rejected inclusion and the provinces which were carved from them, however only Marawi City and Basilan with the exception of Isabela City opted to be integrated in the region. Special ARMM Elections for the regional governor and vice-governor posts happened on November 26, 2001.

The electronic voting used is the first in Philippines election history. The P 500 million COMELEC's "ARMM balloting" is a pilot program for the 2010 national polling.
Sema vs. COMELEC is a court case that was heard before the Supreme Court of the Philippines. It was consolidated with Marquez v. COMELEC. It held that the Regional Assembly of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao does not have the power to create provinces and cities. Thus, the creation of the province of Shariff Kabunsuan was unconstitutional and that province no longer exists as a political entity in the Philippines.
Officially local government in the Philippines, often called local government units or LGUs, are divided into three levels – provinces and independent cities; component cities and municipalities; and barangays. In one area, above provinces and independent cities, is an autonomous region, the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. Below barangays in some cities and municipalities are sitios and puroks. All of these, with the exception of sitios and puroks, elect their own executives and legislatures. Sitios and puroks are often led by elected barangay councilors.
Habib Tupay T. Loong was a Filipino politician who was a representative of Sulu's 1st congressional district in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). He is the older brother of Ben Tupay Loong, the current vice-governor, and himself served as Governor of Sulu for three terms. Together the "Loong Brothers" constitute a formidable political force in Sulu.
Mujiv Sabbihi Hataman is a Filipino politician and is the last Regional Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. He represented the Anak Mindanao party-list in Congress from 2001 to 2010. A former protégé of slain leader Wahab Akbar, but broke with him around 2007 and was even implicated in his death, although charges were eventually dropped. His two brothers are also influential politicians; older brother Hadjiman "Jim" Hataman is the representative from the lone district of Basilan, and younger brother "Boy" Hataman was previously mayor of Sumisip.
Hadji Sadikul "Dick" Adalla Sahali is a Filipino politician and former Governor of Tawi-Tawi, an island province in the Sulu Archipelago. Politically, Tawi-Tawi is part of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Datu Yusoph Boyog Mama was a candidate for public office as Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Regional Governor in the previous 2013 Mid-term Elections, being the lone candidate representing the province of Lanao del Sur, one of the five (5) provinces constituting the ARMM territory. With the support of various key multi-sectoral groups in the province of Lanao del Sur and the provincial capital Islamic City of Marawi, Datu Yusoph B. Mama ran as an independent candidate.

The 2013 general election in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) were held on May 13, 2013. Originally scheduled for October 2011, this was the first ARMM election that was synchronized with the general elections in the Philippines; previously, ARMM elections were held outside the general election day. When the elected officials of the 2008 ARMM elections ended their terms in 2011, President Benigno Aquino III appointed officers-in-charge until the officials elected in 2013 can take their place.
The 2016 general election in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) was held on May 9, 2016. This was the second ARMM election that was synchronized with the general elections in the Philippines.
Local elections in the Philippines were held on May 9, 2016. This was conducted together with the 2016 general election for national positions. All elected positions above the barangay (village) level were disputed.
Datu Zacaria A. Candao is a Filipino politician who served as the first governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
The 2019 Philippine general election will be conducted on May 13, 2019. It shall be a midterm election, where the winners will take office on June 30, 2019, midway the term of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Bangsamoro Transition Authority is the interim regional government of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and has executive and legislative powers over the region.
