Basco Airport( IATA : BSO, ICAO : RPUO) is an airport serving the province of Batanes in the Philippines. It is located in the provincial capital, Basco. It is one of two airports in the Batanes Islands, the other being Itbayat Airport.
The airport is classified as a Class 2 principal, minor domestic airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), a body of the Department of Transportation that is responsible for the operations of non-major airports.
The airport is one of the hubs of Sky Pasada.
Although the airport in the past was briefly served by international flights, the airport is not officially classified as an international airport.
Basco Airport was first built in 1930 as Batan Airfield. During the Second World War, it became a target of Japanese forces during their invasion of the Philippines, seizing it along with the whole island on the first day of the Pacific War on 8 December 1941. Subsequently, the airfield was bombed by American planes in the closing months of the war in 1945, but the Japanese managed to hold on to it until their official surrender. [2]

Batanes, officially the Province of Batanes, is an archipelagic province in the Philippines, administratively part of the Cagayan Valley region. It is the northernmost province in the Philippines, and the smallest, both in population and land area. The capital is Basco, located on the island of Batan.

Uyugan, officially the Municipality of Uyugan, is a 6th class municipality in the province of Batanes, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 1,380 people.

It also is less than an hour's flight from Mactan–Cebu International Airport, which is a gateway to central Philippines for international tourists.
Basco Lighthouse is a lighthouse in the town of Basco in Batanes, the northernmost province in the Philippines. Located in Naidi Hills in Barangay San Antonio, the lush green hills and the open sea provide a beautiful backdrop for the lighthouse. The place can easily be reached by a 1.2-km hike from the Port of Basco.

The Japanese invasion of Batan Island was the first step in their invasion of the Philippines, an American commonwealth territory. The U.S. had acquired the former Spanish colony half a century earlier, when it defeated Spain in the Spanish-American War. The purpose was to obtain control of local airstrips which could be used as forward bases by fighter aircraft for operations further south in the Philippines. The attack on Batan Island was the first of several other advance landings; the other landings took place at Aparri, Vigan, Legaspi, Davao, and Jolo Islands.
