The Bedford HC is a small commercial vehicle that was made by Bedford, beginning in 1938. [1] The vehicle shared its running gear with the H-series Vauxhall 10-4 saloon. Production of civilian vehicles ceased during World War II with the HC van re-entering production for a little while following hostilities. The HC was later joined by the heavier duty Bedford JC, which was itself replaced by the higher-roofed Bedford PC after the war. With the arrival of the much more modern Bedford CA the by now outmoded PC was finally retired. [2]
In 1932 Bedford produced its first light commercial van, it was marketed on the 12 cwt category and was based on the Vauxhall Cadet passenger car but had a more powerful Chevrolet-derived 6-cylinder engine and a heavier American rear axle (taken from the contemporary Chevrolet Independence) which was added in order to accommodate the larger cargo capacity that the van was designed for. Pickup truck variants were also produced. These vehicles were designated as WS and VYC/BYC. Bedford continued to develop its share of the light transport market, with the introduction of the 8 cwt ASYC and ASXC vans, a close derivative of the Vauxhall Light Six car. [3]
Such vehicles were also produced in Australia and New Zealand where they were marketed alongside Chevrolet and GMC trucks, received various locally-built bodies available for specific markets only such as a roadster or coupe utility.
The AS series of vans continued in production until 1939.
The HC's original engine was a four-cylinder unit of 1203 cc, which was rated at 34.5 hp (25.7 kW) at the time. [1] In January 1939 a wooden-bodied pickup truck version called the "Utility Wagon" was introduced. [4] Payload was 5 or 6 long hundredweight (560 or 670 lb; 250 or 300 kg). The HC was Bedford's smallest vehicle at the time and after it was discontinued in the autumn of 1948, Bedford stayed out of the segment until the 1964 introduction of the Bedford HA. [5]
Production was suspended in 1940 as World War II began in earnest. While Bedford began building their heavier trucks in 1945, the lighter HC and JC models had to wait until 1946. [6] Beginning in late 1946 HCs received a 1442 cc version of the engine as seen in the Vauxhall 12-4 and the heavier JC, developing 35 hp. [7] The HC was discontinued in September 1948; 10,600 Bedford HC were built in total. [8] [9] While the pickup version was not listed after the war, Bedford did offer the interesting "Utilevan" version. This was a glazed four-seater Estate Wagon version of the van with a folding rear seat. [10] The Utilevan was an officially sanctioned conversion by independent coachbuilder Martin Walter, Ltd., who later built the Bedford Beagle. [11]
From mid-1938, the HC was also assembled in Australia where it was marketed as the Bedford 6cwt Carryall. A panel van with lower roof and rounded front doors was available, as were three different coupé utilities: an open delivery, a wellside delivery, and a flareboard delivery. [12] The engine was unchanged from the British market. The range of bodystyles was later increased to seven, including a roadster utility (a pickup without a roof). [13]
The heavier duty JC joined the HC in June 1939. The visual differences between the HC and JC vans are a higher roofline and longer 105-inch (2,700 mm) wheelbase. The JC received the 1.4-litre "12HP" engine as used in the Vauxhall 12-4 and post-war HCs. The JC's payload is 10 or 12 long hundredweight (1,100 or 1,300 lb; 510 or 610 kg). The JC was built from 1939 until 1940 and again between 1946 and 1948. As with the HC, there was also a 'Utilevan' variant on offer, a carryall version of the van with two folding rear seats and a maximum capacity of seven people. [10]
From the end of 1939, the 10 hp JC was also built by Holden in Australia, in seven different bodystyles. [13] Variations of the Coupé Utility were the most common model, with panel vans also available. Maximum power of the JC's engine was 40 hp (30 kW). [13] The JC's chassis was also used for the six-cylinder Vauxhall Model J 14hp passenger car range. Australian built JCs (and 14s) have split windshields, a detail that continued on the succeeding PC model as the smaller panes were cheaper and easier to replace given Australia's gravel roads.
In mid-1948 the JC was updated with a column shifted three-speed transmission and 12-volt electrics, which also meant a name change to Bedford PC. [8] The engine and overall appearance remained as before.
The PC was also assembled by Holden in Australia from parts shipped from England. The bodywork behind the cowl was built in Australia and was very different from British models, with different doors with rounded tops and a much lower roofline. [14] Holden offered four bodystyles of their own design: a plain cowl and chassis (PC 6100), an open Coupé Utility (PC 6106), a Wellside Coupé Utility (PC 6108), and the Panel Van (PC 6104). [11]

Ford Courier is a model nameplate used by Ford since the early 1950s. The Courier moniker has been used on a variety of vehicles all around the world since it was first used in North America for a sedan delivery. The Courier nameplate was also used by Ford for a series of compact pickup trucks and would also see use by Ford of Europe denoting a Fiesta-based panel van. Ford Brazil used the nameplate for a Fiesta-based coupe utility pickup marketed across Latin America.
The Opel Commodore is an executive car (E-segment) produced by Opel from 1967 to 1982. It is the six-cylinder variant of the Rekord with styling differences. The Commodore nameplate was used by Opel from 1967 to 1982. However, its nameplate/lineage continued until 2020 with the Australian Holden Commodore. The last generation was sold in the United Kingdom primarily as the Vauxhall Viceroy although Opel models were also sold.

The Isuzu Fargo is a light commercial van manufactured between 1980 and 2001 by Japanese automaker Isuzu in Japan. The Fargo spanned two generations, the first of which was sold between 1980 and 1995 as both van and pickup body styles, with the second generation, introduced in 1995, confined to a single van body style. This second generation was a badge-engineered version of the Nissan Caravan (E24), as opposed to an Isuzu design.

And the only other cars built in the country being Ford and Chrysler vehicle bodies fitted to imported chassis. The Holden was an instant success among Australians, being the first production car built solely for Australia's unique, rough roads.

The Suzuki Carry is a kei truck produced by the Japanese automaker Suzuki. The microvan version was originally called the Carry van until 1982 when the passenger van versions were renamed as the Suzuki Every. In Japan, the Carry and Every are kei cars but the Suzuki Every Plus, the bigger version of Every, had a longer bonnet for safety purposes and a larger engine; export market versions and derivatives have been fitted with engines of up to 1.6 liters displacement. They have been sold under myriad different names in several countries, and is the only car to have been offered with Chevrolet as well as Ford badges.
The Isuzu Faster is a pickup truck that was manufactured and marketed by Isuzu between 1972 and 2002 over three generations. It was sold under myriad different nameplates, most commonly they were marketed under their respective model codes: Isuzu KB for the first and second generations, TF for the third. In Japan, the "Faster" name was eventually supplanted by Rodeo. It was also marketed under a number of other brands from the General Motors portfolio. The Faster was succeeded worldwide by Isuzu D-Max, except in Japan and North America.

It was also known as the Bedford Beagle in estate form and Bedford Roma in small campervan form. The Beagle was an officially sanctioned conversion based on the 8 cwt van, carried out by Martin Walter of Folkestone, Kent. The Beagle received rear side windows and a fold-down rear seat; leaving 28 inches (710 mm) of luggage space with the seat in use.

The General Motors T-car was a platform designation for a worldwide series of rear-wheel drive, unibody subcompact cars. It was General Motors' first attempt to develop a small car to be sold internationally with engineering assistance from Isuzu of Japan and GM's Opel Division of Germany. GM's European divisions Vauxhall and Opel, and Australian division Holden were already producing small vehicles for their respective local markets, but subcompact car production wasn't being done by GM in North America until the introduction of the Vega earlier.
