Berlin Jungfernheide is a railway station located at Charlottenburg-Nord, in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district of Berlin, served by the S-Bahn lines S41 and S42, the U-Bahn line U7 and Regional-Express trains of the Deutsche Bahn. Its name literally translates into "maidens' heathland"; it was named after the Jungfernheide, a former large forest in the proximity of this station.
The S-Bahn station Jungfernheide was opened in 1894, around 20 years after the tracks were first laid on that stretch. It originally had a single island platform, served by trains of the Berlin Ringbahn. This was supplemented in 1908 by a second platform for suburban trains and then later by a third, built specifically for the new Siemensbahn, which was funded by the company Siemens to serve their plant some distance west of the station.
Following the building of the Berlin Wall in 1961, however, services were disrupted and the station was reduced to having two platforms. The station fell into complete disuse after 1980, when passenger numbers fell to unsustainable levels. This situation was intensified by the building of the U-Bahn line U7, which was essentially a parallel service to the S-Bahn to Spandau.
Following the fall of the Wall, many disused S-Bahn lines were brought back into use. This included the Ringbahn but none of the other routes through Jungfernheide, which therefore reopened with only one platform on 15 April 1997, at which time only the line from the south was in use. It was not until 2002 that the Ringbahn was operated again in its entirety and Jungfernheide enjoyed a status as an important interchange between S-Bahn and U-Bahn, owing to its being served by direct trains from the majority of Berlin's central districts.
The subway station was opened on 1 October 1980 on the occasion of the commissioning of the route from Rohrdamm to Richard-Wagner-Platz on the U7. Originally, a changeover to the S-Bahn was planned at this time. However, this had been shut down as a result of the strike of the Reichsbahn two weeks before.
The design took over the architect Rainer Gerhard Rümmler as with all Berlin subway new buildings at this time. [4] The result was a decorated with colorful floral motifs fired on ceramic tiles station, which, however, looks very dark by the barren lighting.
The station is designed with two stacked platforms, as a connection to Tegel Airport (Urban Tech Republic) and Rathaus Reinickendorf was provided by the Urban Ring "U0" and the extended U5 line. For this purpose, the eastern platform edge would have been used on both levels. Today, the trains were stacked in two levels, stop in the direction of Rudow at the upper platform and at the lower platform in the direction of Rathaus Spandau.
On 17 December 1997, the subway station received an elevator that connects both platforms with the front hall for accessibility reasons.
In one part of the station and the adjoining unused track tunnel the fire-brigade exercise facility of the Berlin subway is located. It was inaugurated on 14 July 2003. The facility is 350 meters long, including a 90-meter smoke chamber. This marks the U5 platforms and tracks totally unusable. The U5 extension was later cancelled and became a tram route. [5] In addition to the BVG-own staff firefighters, police, emergency physicians and Technisches Hilfswerk train in the emergency training center (Notfallübungscenter (NÜC)) the fire fighting and evacuation. An emergency exit can also be included in the exercises. [6]
The part of the station for regional trains was opened on 28 May 2006 along with the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof, which also included a major reorganisation of the train services in and around Berlin. The station is served around half-hourly for most of the day by the Regional-Express line RE4, which runs between Rathenow and Jüterbog, and the RegionalBahn service RB10, from Nauen to Berlin Hbf.
Before the Ringbahn was reactivated in this area, its platform B was used in the early 1990s as a terminus for regional trains.

The U7 is a rail line on the Berlin U-Bahn. It runs completely underground for a length of 31.8 kilometres (19.8 mi) through 40 stations and connects Spandau, via Neukölln, to Gropiusstadt and Rudow. The U7 was originally the south-eastern branch of the Nord-Süd-Bahn (U6) that ran between the branching point at Belle-Alliance-Straße (Mehringdamm) and Grenzallee; however, in the 1960s, this stretch was separated from the rest of the line and extended at each end to form a new line.

Jungfernheide is an area of forest and heathland located in Berlin in the present-day district of Charlottenburg-Nord, a locality of the borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Formerly a large forested area, it was progressively reduced in size through development and military use. The recently closed Tegel Airport now divides the remainder, with Volkspark Jungfernheide (Jungfernheidepark) to the south, and a larger still-forested region between the airport and Lake Tegel.
Berlin Ostkreuz station is a station on the Berlin S-Bahn suburban railway and the busiest interchange station in Berlin. It is in the former East Berlin district of Friedrichshain, now part of the borough of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. A smaller part of the station is in Rummelsburg, part of the borough of Lichtenberg. The station is a Turmbahnhof with the Berlin–Frankfurt (Oder) railway and the Prussian Eastern Railway on the lower level and the Berlin Ringbahn on the upper level. The Ringbahn is a 37.5 km (23.3 mi) long circle route around Berlin's inner city area, on the Berlin S-Bahn network. The S-Bahn lines S41 and S42 provide a closed-loop continuous service without termini. Berlin Gesundbrunnen station is a railway station in Berlin, Germany. It is situated in the Gesundbrunnen district, part of the central Mitte borough, as an interconnection point between the northern Ringbahn and Nord-Süd Tunnel lines of the Berlin S-Bahn, as well as a regional and long distance station of the Deutsche Bahn network. Berlin-Staaken is a railway station located in Staaken, a locality in the Spandau district of Berlin. It is one of only two Deutsche Bahn stations in Berlin not served by the S-Bahn; Albrechtshof station is the other.
The Berlin–Lehrte railway, known in German as the Lehrter Bahn, is an east–west line running from Berlin via Lehrte to Hanover. Its period as a separate railway extended from its opening in 1871 to the nationalisation of its owner, the Magdeburg-Halberstadt Railway Company on 1 July 1886. The company's Berlin station, the Lehrter Bahnhof was finally torn down in 1958.
The Berlin North-South main line, also called the North-South link (Nord-Süd-Verbindung) is an electrified railway line in Berlin which was opened in 2006. It is an important component of the “mushroom concept” (Pilzkonzept) adopted for long-distance and regional rail services through the city. Its core is an approximately 3.5 km (2.2 mi) long Tiergarten tunnel under the Tiergarten in Berlin. The tunnel section includes the underground level of Berlin Hauptbahnhof and the Potsdamer Platz regional station. The above-ground section of the line includes the Berlin Südkreuz station.
S15 is a planned second north-south route for the Berlin S-Bahn, which will connect Berlin Hauptbahnhof to the Berlin Ringbahn to both north and south. The first section is under construction and is expected to go into operation in 2024.
The Berlin S-Bahn began on 8 August 1924 with the first section from Stettiner Vorortbahnhof to Bernau using steam locomotives. On 13 August 1961 it was broken up when the Berlin Wall was built, resulting in two sections: the eastern part and the western part. The western part experienced a massive strike which resulted in closure of several stations, after declining use. Attempts were made to reopen at various times but in the end, only three lines were finally opened after the strike. Since 9 November 1989, when the Berlin Wall was opened, the Berlin S-Bahn began to expand rapidly with their budgetary costs.
The Berlin U-Bahn originated in 1880 with Werner Siemens' idea to build an urban railway in Berlin. During the nine years after the German Empire was founded, the city's population grew by over one-third and traffic problems increased. In 1896, Siemens & Halske began to construct the first stretch of overhead railway. On 1 April 1897, the company began construction of an electric underground railway. The Berliner Verkehrs Aktiengesellschaft (BVG) was formed in 1928, and took over further construction and operation of the network. In 1938, the company was renamed Berlin Transport Company; the original acronym, however, remained. Since 1994, the BVG has been a public company.
