Bernd Herrmann (born 22 November 1951) was a West German athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metres.

He competed for West Germany at the 1976 Summer Olympics held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he won the bronze medal in the men's 4 x 400 metre relay with his teammates Franz-Peter Hofmeister, Lothar Krieg and Harald Schmid. [1] He also competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics. [1]

Bernd Kannenberg was a West German race walker who won the 50 km event at the 1972 Summer Olympics. He also competed in the 20 km at the 1972 and 1976 Games, but failed to finish. In 1972 Kannenberg became the first German athlete to walk 50 km within four hours; the same year he was awarded the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt. During his career he set five world records, and won six outdoor and four indoor West German titles.

Heinz Ulzheimer was a West German track and field athlete, who mainly competed in the 800 metres. He was born in Höchst. He competed in the 800 metres for Germany at the 1952 Summer Olympics held in Helsinki, Finland, where he won the bronze medal. He then assisted the German team in the 4 x 400 metre relay where he won the bronze medal with his team mates Hans Geister, Günther Steines and Karl-Friedrich Haas. He died at the age of 90 in 2016.

Karl-Friedrich Haas was a West German athlete who mainly competed in the 400 metres. He was born in Berlin, Brandenburg, Prussia, Germany. He competed for West Germany in the 1952 Summer Olympics held in Helsinki, Finland where he won the bronze medal in the 4 x 400 metre relay with his team mates Hans Geister, Günther Steines and Heinz Ulzheimer. Four years later he competed for the United Team of Germany in the 1956 Summer Olympics held in Melbourne, Australia and won a silver in the individual 400 metres. His son Christian Haas was also an Olympic competitor.

It is the most prestigious 400 m race at elite level. The competition format typically has two qualifying rounds leading to a final race between eight athletes.
